Mercedes' performance was just cut off by a severe weather alert.

Oh HELL to the NAW!

We felt an earthquake! 4.7, with a 3.8 aftershock about fifteen minutes later.

All I felt was--well, I have two desks in a corner, in an L shape. I was sitting at one with my arm resting on the other, and suddenly the one my arm was on pitched toward me, then settled right back. Happened again a few moments later. I couldn't figure out what it was, I thought maybe the neighbors had slammed something against the wall, but that wall is against their stairwell so I was puzzled. I went to the stairs to ask Cody (who was downstairs) if he felt it, and he asked me if I felt it. I said yeah and he asked what it was and I was like... "I dunno, earthquake?"

I just went downstairs again and he was all "Well, it WAS an earthquake!"

And now it's storming, with lightning. Whee.

I know that I journaled about another earthquake a couple of years ago but I can't find the entry for the life of me. =(

...but I probably won't, as I'm sure I'll hear about it around the office if/when he advances.

You see, there's a Mountain Homie on there this year. Local boy makes good (as they've said about Wes Bentley a few times). He's been touted as being from MH and from Gassville, but that's pretty much the same thing, lol. Here's the video. =)

~*~

In other news, there is no news, other than the foot of snow out there. Or, as I put it to [livejournal.com profile] kitty0_o, IT'S SNOW LIEK WHOA. Kept us home from work yesterday and today (well, Cody was supposed to work today. Not me). Hopefully the roads are clear by Monday morning, or if not, I may be carpooling--which doesn't bother me in and of itself, but I don't particularly like having to pack a lunch multiple days in succession, mostly because I don't like having to wash my bento box by hand if the dishwasher doesn't happen to be full.

Also, I've discovered that the blogs I most enjoy reading are the sort that tend to have lots of pictures, with a few words of explanation. (See Garcia, Jorge, Goth, Cupcake, and Gaiman, Neil, going in order from best to worst examples, lol.) And I feel like this effect must be achieved by people who have devices that have both picture-taking and internetting capabilities (iPhone is what leaps to my mind, but I know at least that that's not what Neil Gaiman uses, because he talks about his phone a fair bit), because I can't imagine going to the effort of removing photos from the digital camera that often. I mean, how long did it take me to get the wedding photos online, once I had them? And that was on a CD, not a device where I had to open it up to remove the card.

In other words, that's quite shiny, but I'm quite lazy. XD
rena_librarian: (Default)
Blah blah blah, I fail at LiveJournal, etc etc. Not sure if I'm going to read the last...month?...of entries or not, we'll see how far backed up I am.

The main reason for this is Google Reader: I decided to separate syndicated content from meaningful content (instead of reading all of it together and getting SUPER backlogged all the time). Therefore ICHC and such are checked on Google Reader, and LJ is for...well, actual people. Lol.

I really just wanted to come around and say:

A) Yeah, still alive, wedding plans rolling.
B) I spent the weekend with Josh and Shelly and we watched Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog/Commentary! The Musical and I have been left wibbling. In a very good way. (Yeeeah I might have a crush on NPH now, but this is hardly the first time I've developed a fondness for the unattainable, lol.) And yeah yeah yeah I KNOW I need to, you know, dive into the rest of Jossverse, but please, maybe, can it wait until after the wedding?

PS: This weather makes me happy. Le sigh. =)
rena_librarian: (Default)
[Error: unknown template qotd]

I don't care what the weather is like, a movie is ALWAYS a treat (yes, even a boring, crappy movie, in a theater) and being on the beach is ALWAYS miserable.
rena_librarian: (Default)
So I put these on Facebook and totally forgot to link. I suck at life.

Engagement pics!
Ice storm pics!

In other news, someone used the microwave in here to heat up leftover pasta of some sort (I didn't see it, I just smell it) and now I'm STAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRVING.
rena_librarian: (Default)
News junkies: yes, major ice storms, blah blah blah, downed power lines, etc etc. I'm fine. Everyone here is fine.

Monday I went to class with Cody, we both heard about the bad weather, so we grabbed lunch on campus, got in the car, and zoomed home. We went through some freezing rain around Henderson, but the roads were okay. Started coming down hard after we got in, and we STAYED in.

I had power until about 9:30-10 Tuesday night. Cody and I still stayed in. When I turned my phone on in the morning (turned off to conserve battery since I couldn't charge it), Nico had called and offered to come get us. We packed up the perishable groceries and refugee-d at his place, since he had power. He was also hosting April and her three kids, so it was a bit crowded, but yay for warmth and showers.

I got power yesterday around noon, if my clock is to be believed. No internet as of 4 PM, but Suddenlink said it would be on "sometime late this afternoon." I haven't been home to check but hopefully it'll be there when I get there. =) (I'm at Nico's now, internetting.)

No telling when I'll get to the flist, but probably once I have internet at home, as I see a week's worth of entries taking me a good two-three hours to browse. =P

...yeah, I'm about 200 entries back. Sigh.
rena_librarian: (Default)
I hate actually posting them on MySpace, because they get deleted after ten days. I like to dig through them now and again and see what my answers were four years ago. =D

Last December, what was your love life like? Pretty shitty. I had found out a month or so prior that the man I thought I would end up marrying (presumptuous on my part, I see in retrospect) had recently married someone else and I was pretty bummed about it, though coping better than I would have thought. Things picked up in January, though. (Not that that worked out, either, but still.)
Who or what can you blame for your mood today? Yesterday. My mood today has been "meh, I wish I was with Cody right now..."
Do you wash your hair in the shower? Of course, though I'm assuming this question means as opposed to the sink, lol.
Do you care what others think about you? Ehh...my friends have a wee bit of influence, but the general populace, no.
What is your fear? Losing Cody. Dogs. Catching my hair on fire. In that order.
Have you ever been kissed in a car? Yes. =D
How are you feeling right now? Ehh. Obviously bored enough that these sounded like a good idea.
What was your last argument about? With Nico, over my political apathy, I'm sure.
Last nap? Yesterday.
Have you ever liked anyone that treated you like crap? Yeah, but I never notice it WHILE I'm being treated like crap, I'll make excuses for the person for a long time. (So I'm glad I'm with someone who treats me like a princess!)
Where would you like to be right now? With Cody.
Ever been told you were loved by someone who didn't mean it? No.
Could you go the rest of your life without smoking a cigarette? That's the plan!!
What were you doing at 10:17 pm last night? I was in the middle of a very intense makeout session with Cody...
Besides this, what are you doing right now? Listening to music. I have a few tabs and stuff open but I'm not actively doing anything else.
Will you be up before 7 am tomorrow? No.
Did you kiss or make out with anyone in this last week? Yes to both, yesterday.
Do you get mad when your current bf/gf talks about an ex? Considering it's ALWAYS "Oh my God you're so much awesome-r than ex," I don't mind at all. =)
Are you afraid to grow up? I am grown up.
Was the person you last kissed physically attractive? Well, I sure as hell think so! (Honestly...I don't think I could kiss anyone that I didn't find at least somewhat attractive. Shallow but true. Additionally, I don't think I could ever kiss anyone but Cody. ^_^)
What was your worst subject in school? Math, hands down.
Want something you can't have? Not that I can think of, really. The things I want and don't have are things I WILL have in time.
What do you do when you're sad? ...call Cody.
Do you hate the last person you kissed? Lol, I don't think I ever could!
Do you have a secret that you've never told ANYONE? Not of my own, lol, which is why I've yet to send in a PostSecret card. I do have secrets I keep from people until I know them really well, though.
Something that happened in your past that you hate talking about? I really hate going over the circumstances of my adoption, or the fact that I'm adopted at all.
Ever licked someone's cheek or forehead? ...yesterday.
Last time you fell asleep in someone's arms? Also yesterday. I head out to Cody's so early that at some point snuggling turns into an unintentional hour-long nap. Not that I mind horribly...
Is the last person you kissed older or younger? A little over four years younger.
Last place you took a plane to? Canada.
Have you ever been around someone who was high? Unfortunately.
What are your plans for the weekend? Friday night's the last night of the auction, no plans Saturday (YET), Cody's coming to see me Sunday.
Where did you sleep last night? In my bed. Alone. I very nearly said "fuck it" in favor of staying overnight with Cody, but I just felt bad not asking his parents (who were in bed asleep long before I left).
Ever kissed someone who smokes? No, thankfully. I wanted to at one point. (A particular person, I mean, not just kissing a smoker for the sake of it.)
How many children do you plan on having? NONE!
Do you sleep with the door to your room open or closed? Closed, or at least only open a crack. The light from the computer at the other end of the hall would keep me awake, but I don't like for the office door to be closed when I get out of bed.
Own more than 10 pairs of flip-flops? Oh HELL no. They're only one step below Crocs on my hate list.
What is something you wish you had more of? Time with Cody.
What woke you up this morning? Nothing, lol. I didn't get out of bed until 2:30, and that was only because I could NOT sleep any more, lol.
What were you like a year ago? Lonely, upset over the answer to the first question, though better off financially, planning my trip to Canada.

Name a person that you instantly smile when you see they're calling? Cody, of course. But I smile for a lot of people.
Who's the last person to call you "baby"? Cody, and he apologized. Lol.
Is your current relationship status simple or complicated? Pretty simple. I love him, he loves me.
Have you ever gone out with a football or baseball player or a cheerleader? No. Ew.
Who were you with at 12:00 last night? By then I was alone, unfortunately, making the drive home.
If you're sleeping and someone calls you what do you say? If I answer, "Hello" is pretty standard. Unless it's like ungodly late (an hour when I shouldn't be awake, not like if I'm sleeping in), then it's still hello, but with worry in my tone.
Feel like talking to someone that you haven't in a while? Yeeeeeah...Hobbity and I really haven't talked since Cody and I got together and she's like the last person I haven't updated.
Ready for winter to come? YES YES YES YES. I'm thinking I'll be breaking out my winter coat by the end of the week!
Have you ever slept in a bed with the opposite sex? Not overnight, but yeah, Cody and I have fallen asleep in both our beds.
Are you keeping a big secret right now? Maaaaaaaaybe...don't ask.
Are you taller than 5'5"? Yes.
How's your heart right now? Overflowing. In a very good way.
How ticklish are you? I have my spots.
Are you in a good mood? Missing Cody, but other than that, yeah.
Are you a mean person? I have my moments.
How is your hair? Fine, I think. Haven't looked at it since like 6ish.
Do you care if people hate you for no reason? I'd be more confused than anything, but no, not really.
Dark hair or light hair in the opposite sex? Dark.
What are your plans for tomorrow? Cody's going to text me so I get out of bed and chat with him while he's at work, then McD's with Nico before we go to auction "training." (I'll probably be teaching the freaking training. I'm awesome.)
What is one fact about the last person who called you? He's a Mac user. ^_^
Are you getting engaged any time soon? Wow. How often do you get to answer yes to that? Yes! Lol. I imagine it'll be official in about six months...
When and where did you kiss the last person you kissed? In my car, in his driveway, on the lips. Lol.
Have you ever met a gay person? ...BWAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. No, NEVER. XD *is official Straight Ally Outreach of Baxter County Pride*
Have you ever intentionally made someone jealous? Hm. I think I've tried a few times but I don't know if it worked, lol.
Have you ever dated someone older than yourself? Yeah.
Was your last kiss drunk or sober? Sober. I've never kissed drunk. Actually I've never done anything all-out drunk. But still, something to think about...
Why did your last relationship end? Really and truly, I've only been in one relationship.
Last time you were truly happy? Last night around 11. Then I had to come home.
Are you satisfied with what you currently have in life? No. I need a job. (But I'm happy with everything else.)
Have you ever skipped class? Only because I was sick. And only twice.
Do people ever think you're older/younger than you actually are? Both.
Have sex on your mind? ...more often than I'd care to admit.
Is there a meaning behind your myspace song? I just upgraded to the ten-song playlist player, so it's really more a showcase of my all-time favorites than it is particular songs--though yes, they're my favorites for a reason.
Do you own a pair of green pants? Well, they're more of a sage-y color, almost a neutral, but yeah.
Do you believe that what goes around comes around? Oh yes, which is what keeps me from wreaking revenge on my own behalf. (It worked the last two times!)
Have you ever felt like you hit rock bottom? Only financially. =(
Who do you miss? CODY!!
Ever felt that no one relates to you? Yeah.
Are you available for a relationship? Nope!
What's the last thing to make you laugh? Nico.
How many people are you texting? Currently no one. Even Nico's asleep.
Who was the last friend you were chillin' with? Nico.
Do you have a friend you can tell stuff to and you're sure they won't tell? Yeah.
Do you have any plans for the weekend? Already answered this.
Does the future scare you? No, I'm really looking forward to it as a matter of fact, especially the part that starts a year from now.
Was it a boy or a girl to call you last? Guy, lol.
Is anyone overprotective of you? Not really. I moved out to fix that problem.
Were you born in the same town you live in now? Yes, actually, though I haven't lived here my whole life.

Where was the FIRST TIME you ever saw the person you like? On the dating site... (plentyoffish.com, it works! It's FREE!)
Do you believe that every thing happens for a reason? Yes indeedy. Like if Sam hadn't dumped me, I wouldn't have signed up for PoF and Cody and I would still be sitting around lonely...or at least, I would. I got lucky.
Are you over your past? See previous answer. ^_-
Has anyone disappointed you recently? Yeah, the State of Arkansas passing Prop One. GRR.
What are you listening to at the moment? Rhythm and Police by CJ Crew, from DDR.
Do you plan on moving with in the next year? No, though I suppose it's possible. If I move anywhere it'll be because Cody and I are getting married and we decide to live somewhere other than my place.
Are you a morning person or a night? Night!
Are you a forgiving person? Ehh...I suppose, though I need to work on the forgetting a bit, lol.
What's annoying you right now? Not being with Cody, lol.
Does it take a lot to make you cry? Yeah.
Taken or single? Very happily taken!
Do you like it? XD YES.
Would you consider adoption? Well, if I got pregnant I certainly wouldn't have an abortion...oh, you mean TAKE kids? XD No.
Would you rather go to a baseball game or a football game? I'd rather sit in my room and curl up with a good book. Or Cody, whichever was handier.
Is there someone you want to fight? Not really. But now I have that Pink song stuck in my head. ("Na na na na na na na, I wanna start a fight..." It's called So What. Download it, it's freaking catchy.)
Do you believe in true love? I HAS IT!
What are you doing tonight? After this, BEDTIME.
Do you know what you' re wearing tomorrow? Yeah, if I know I'm leaving the house at all, I generally pick out my clothes the night before, when I'm actually awake, lol.
Do you want to go back in time? No, if I had a time machine I'd go FORWARD. And there's not really anything I want to fix badly enough to want to risk changing everything else.
What were you doing an hour ago? Um. This.
Have you ever seen someone you knew and purposely avoided seeing them? ...yeah. Usually because I KNOW I know them but can't remember their name.
Do you know anyone with such a terribly annoying voice , that you can't even stand? I think is is pretty much the thing stopping me from getting into "The Nanny." Lol. (However, I like Roseanne, so...)
What were you doing at 10am? Today? Sleeping. Hardcore.
Is there someone you wish you were still close with? Yeah, two or three.
Did you go to sleep happy last night? Oh yes.
Who was the last girl you talked to? Um...Steph, online. If you don't count online I haven't had any contact with any females at all today. O_o
Name something that made you smile today? Seeing the design-your-own Converse that Cody wants. Hee.
When was the last time you talked to your number 1 on your top friends? Around 10, I think. Not sure what time I signed out.
Honestly has anyone ever seen you in your underwear? Not since I was old enough for it to be a sexual thing. My parents, though, obviously.
Is there any boy or girl you wish you could be with right now? Cody!
Have you ever dated a friend' s ex? Nope.
Is there a person of the opposite sex that you care a lot about? More than one, but yes, I do have a "significant other," if that's what you're driving at.
Have you ever thought about getting your lip pierced? Not in a serious way, lol.
Are you in a good mood right now? I'm pretty meh. Miss Cody, stressed about money, but more or less happy.
Last female you slept in the same room with? Uh...huh. Wow. Oh yeah, the gals the night before Shelly's wedding. Had to think about that.
If you were upset, who' s the first girl you would go to? Probably Kristy, if I felt the need to go to anyone at all. But it would depend on what I was upset about.
Do you need to say anything to someone? I LOVE YOU CODY!!! <3 (Hee.)
Has anyone ever told you they love you? Of course.
Do you get along with your mom? Now that I don't have to live with her, I find it much easier to put up with her, but it's still a matter of putting up with her.
Do you fall for people easily? Well, hm. It was a trait of mine, but I won't anymore, lol, because I'm taken. And oddly enough it took longer to totally fall for Cody than it usually takes me...which I'm going to interpret as a sign of my own maturity in that area.
Does the last person you held hands with mean anything to you? He's everything to me.
Do you think you' ll be in a relationship 3 months from now? Oh yes. I better be, lol!
Do you know anyone that smokes pot? >_< Yes.
Have you ever made out against a truck? No, but if that's something that I absolutely MUST experience before I die I'm sure I can get that taken care of soon. However, I've made out against a CAR and I can't imagine that it's much different.
Do you think the last person you kissed is nice? Oh yes. I wouldn't have kissed him otherwise.
Ever kissed a blonde-haired, blue-eyed person? Nope.
Have you ever kissed anyone whose name started with C? YES!!!
How many kids do you want to have? None!
Do you have a best friend? Yeah. It's more like a circle of a select few.
Do you like your life? I do now.
Did you date anyone last summer? Over this last summer I was talking with/falling for Cody. So...I guess not technically since it was September before we met face-to-face, but yes. Lol.
This past summer? Uh...what? OH. Previous answer goes HERE. To answer last question, then--no, I was still convinced that Duncan would work out. =(
Is it okay if you kiss people when you're single? Well, I personally wouldn't kiss someone unless there was some level of commitment, but I guess it's not inherently wrong so long as everyone involved understands what's going on.
What is wrong with you right now? XD I should be asleep.
Do you plan on kissing the last person you kissed again? Many many many many many many many many many many many times. I'm addicted. I doubt he minds.
Do you think you can last in a relationship for 6 months? I've had one-sided crushes last longer than that even when I was being treated like crap, so I'm pretty sure it's not going to be a challenge. We're 1/3 of the way there! Lol.
Are you too shy to tell people when you' re developing feelings for them? No, I'd ask a guy out. I won't say "I love you" first, though...it's always worked so far. ^_-
Do you dance while getting ready for whatever? I've been known to dance around in my panties now and again...
Have you ever done something outrageously dumb? Not outrageously, lol.
What' s the worst thing you've been arrested for? Lol, never been arrested.
Do you like the town you live in? Not particularly, but it's better than some. *coughforrestcitycough*
If not, where would you like to live instead? Anywhere further north. The big contenders in my mind are Chicago, St. Louis, and Edmonton or Calgary. Possibly Denver. But we'll see. (Rogers, at least, but I really would like to get the hell out of Arkansas.)
Are you sick right now? Um, no. Well, to paraphrase that Scrubs episode, if I looked hard enough I'm sure I could find SOMETHING wrong, but I'm fine, lol.

Kristy dragged me outside for a minute today. The cell phone reception was sucky today, and by that I mean there were a few long stretches where all of us on Cingular (yeah, yeah, the new AT&T, whatever...what's the point of coming up with a name as clever/catchy/pleasant-sounding as Cingular only to ditch it in the merger??) had zero bars. She was trying to text Stuart so we went outside. We ended up discovering that it was the network, not being inside (which makes sense as she texts from her desk all day, usually), but I'm getting off topic. The point is I spent about five to seven minutes outside, not in transit from a door to a vehicle.

HELL.

The sun was shining, there was pretty much no breeze...I think officially it was in the 70's but it felt hellishly hot. I felt itchy and sweaty and ICKY. Ewwwww. I think I hate heat more than I hate being wet. (Wet I can tolerate in small doses, in the right conditions. Like in the shower, or in the rain if I have something to protect my hair.)

I. HATE. HEAT. *dies* (It's not a coincidence that hate anagrams to heat, IMHO.)

So I'm officially retreating to the indoors--if you want me outside, you'll have to wait until the sun is down, and even then it's iffy. After dark TODAY it wasn't so bad, but unless it starts raining torrentially it's going to be so bad, soon.

On to more pleasant topics--went and did laundry at Kristy's, and Stuart fired up their little charcoal grill and made AWESOME CHEEZBURGERS. ^_^ And they were sooooo good (even if the charcoal did go out and they had to finish cooking in the oven). OMG. I don't think I've had a charcoal-cooked burger in years. I'm thinking of getting myself a charcoal grill...

Then when I got home I stopped and grabbed the mail, and the internet and electric statements were waiting for me. I was thinking to myself how Dad always used to say he never got anything in the mail but bills and how I never believed him until I moved out...and then when I finally sat down and opened them, I got a pleasant surprise. For whatever reason, my electric is FREE! Possibly not just this month, either, but for the next month or two as well. I THINK this is my initial $180 deposit (from when I moved in) being returned to me for being such an awesome customer who always pays her bill on time (with the exception of the very first payment, which got lost in the mail and caused me to decide to pay it in person from then on). Not certain, will call tomorrow. Considering my bill is ALWAYS between $55 and $65 (yes, even though I keep my place @ 68 degrees year-round, yay levelized billing), that's a free ride for three months! ^_^ I'm going to call tomorrow and get this confirmed, and switch to the billing where it's the EXACT same every month, now that I have over a year's worth of records for them to work with. ^_^ YAY YAY YAY.

Going to bed now. Have a good night!

snow day!!

Yeah, the only reason I'm at work is Stuart came and got me after he dropped Kristy off. There's something like 4 or 6 inches of snow on the ground as of 8:30.

Totally SLACKING DAY! ^_^ There's like...no one here to care. Hehe.

That being the case, I'm filling out this ALPHABET MEME (no pressure to repost):

A - Age: MY BIRTHDAY IS NEXT WEEK OMG SQUEE! I'll be 22 Friday after next.
B - Band listening to right now: Uh...Leslie Carter. (Shrek soundtrack, more to the point.)
C - Career future: I'm going to stick around here as long as it brings me the $$$.
D - Dad’s name: Jerry. (Gerald, but only on paper, lol.)
E - Easiest person to talk to: Uh...huh. Katchan.
F - Favorite type of shoe: Socks. Hehe. But I suppose neo-Mary-Janes when I have to wear shoes.
G - Grapes or Grapefruit: Neither, but grapefruit if I was starving to death, I guess.
H - Hometown: Hmm...I'm claiming Mountain Home even though I technically didn't live here until last year. I've just been IN this town my whole life.
I - Instrumental talent: Bass on Rock Band. =D
J - Juice of choice: Snapple Fire (aka Dragonfruit).
K - Koala Bear or Panda Bear: PANDA!!
L - Longest car ride ever: Hmm...from here to California w/my parents, when I was 5 or so.
M - Middle name: NOT. TELLING.
N - Number of jobs you’ve had: Three that count, lol. SubWay for about seven weeks, Taco Bell for too fucking long, and now CAS.
O - OCD traits: Too many to list. Notably I'm anal about keeping my music perfectly sorted on my computer.
P - Phobia[’s]: Logging trucks and catching my hair on fire
Q - Quote: When I get a little money, I books. If any is left, I buy food and clothes. --Erasmus
R - Reason to smile: OMG Peter Jackson got clearance to make The Hobbit and it's filming less than a year from now!!!
S - Song you sang last: Uh...? Dammit. It was last night, in the car w/Stuart and Kristy...One Week, Barenaked Ladies.
T - Time you wake up: 7, theoretically, though it often ends up being 8. Whenever the hell I feel like crawling out of bed on the weekends.
U - Unknown fact about me: I just discovered that in Dvorak, the QWERTY j becomes h, enabling the typing of hhjj with JUST ONE KEY, if you can switch between the two with your left hand (which I can, because I rock hardcore.) Okay, so that wasn't so much about me, but it was probably widely unknown. Lol.
V - Vegetable you hate: Uh...several, but lettuce comes to mind most particularly.
W - Worst habit: Hm...so hard to answer now that I don't bite my nails anymore. Probably my snooze button addiction...
X - X-rays you’ve had: None, amazingly.
Y - Yummiest food your belly likes: Hmm...I feel pathetic and weak for admitting this, but I miss my mom's spaghetti SO HARD.
Z - Zodiac Sign: Pisces.

Did laundry @ Kristy's on Monday night and we watched Over the Hedge. Lol. It was kawaii. I fangirled just a smidge over Avril Lavigne, lol. Part of me wants to say I'd rather she stuck to music, but then, you know, some of her music videos are pretty well-acted (see: My Happy Ending, off the top of my head). Her part wasn't really big enough to draw a conclusion.

Went to karaoke with Jacqui last night but then my phone went off and reminded me about the eclipse, so she and I left in a hurry (I almost left my debit card there O_o). We were going to watch from the huge empty field next to CAS, but as we were driving through town we realized there was a pretty thick and impenetrable cloud cover. -_-* I finally get on top of this astronomical thing and set up a reminder and then...clouds. DARN YOU METEOROLOGY!

Not to mention said clouds left a thick coating of ice (not frost) on my car. Though, lesson learned this morning: you CAN scrape off larger areas of your windshield with less effort if you let the car run with the defrosters fully on! :D Logic would dictate, yes, but I figured for the time I tend to spend on this that it couldn't actually get warm enough to make a difference. And then when you get INTO the car it's all nice and toasty.

Fun part of this: peeling ice off a soft top is entertaining. You can get it to come off in pretty big chunks--you push on the fabric and it peels away from the ice, then you can put your hand in between the two and lift the ice off, in pieces the size of a dinner plate. Lol.

Best moment of the night:
Me: "Hey, Jacqui, there's a lunar eclipse tonight."
Jacqui: "When?"
Me: "Like, it starts in ten minutes."
J: "Where?"
Me: *bursts into laughter*

She meant to ask where could we watch it, but still. Lol.

Nico and I have dinner plans tonight; he's in a much better mood, lol. He just called me and the landlord (who is repairing his apartment after it flooded, what with the shingles being gone and all--his nextdoor neighbor had a chunk of ceiling fall down) has asked to photograph his apartment for their promotional stuff. The landlord confirmed what I've suspected pretty much since he moved in--he has the nicest apartment there. Awesome! As I told him, that feels like something right out of a Sex and the City episode, lol. He told them they could do it if they replaced all his carpet and they agreed. Good deal all around.

Money's good, for once--I got paid last night (apparently direct deposit takes place around 8 PM on Thursday night, not at midnight) I've got all my bills covered and then money after that, and my tax return should be direct deposited any day. Not sure if I'm going to pay my credit card down to a zero balance or hang on to the cash for a bit. I was thinking car insurance payment, but I think that's not due again until the beginning of April. March or April, and I'm 92% sure it's April. So I'll have more money by then anyway. This feels nice; I've been kind of stressing about money more or less since Thanksgiving.

And hey, I'm getting a raise in April. I need to go ask Tim how much, lol.

So February is a 3-check month for me (FTW? That shouldn't be possible, so that's really cool. Yay leap year!), but not really, because of course everything that's due at the beginning of the month (rent, lol) comes out of that check on the 29th. But the awesome thing is that since it IS technically a third paycheck, they won't take deductions out of that check. Well, taxes yeah, and quite possibly my 401(k), but not any of my insurance. $42.72 extra in MY pocket, yay!

I've been using the "weather" tag like crazy lately. January and February are WEIRD.

Lunchtime!

aww

Betty or Anne, one (I wasn't here and Kristy wasn't sure) left me a fun-size Butterfinger, Abi got me a tiny box of Russell Stover chocolates (there were three in the box, teehee), and Gloria just came back here with chocolate from my parents that Dad dropped off at the front desk--chocolate "roses" in a box and a heart-shaped box of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. (They know me so well.) And Gloria said my outfit was cute. ^_^

So not quite the chocolates "from your secret admirer!" that I was fantasizing about (and which have seven hours to materialize before I leave today...I'm so sad, this day lives up to its alternate name), but definitely better than no chocolate at all.

(Pics later. Maybe I should start carrying my camera cord and mp3 player cord so I can just use them here @ work?)

And in other news, salsa might get canceled, and I might NOT have to deal with seeing Brandon today, or with wimping out about seeing him today! (Kristy offered to call him and tell him to stay away, lol.)

I wish I had $$$ (come on, tax refund, post to my account today!!). I think I'd go clubbing.

ETA: Better than anything: Nico called me this morning and informed me that his ex-roomate (the guy) was helping clean up the tornado as part of his SENTENCE. Yay for the boss of Taco Bell doubling as a cop and finding these things out. XD

Yeah, so, I'm kind of in love with Flickr for batch uploads, mainly because it IS a batch upload, you can click on a zillion files at once instead of having to tell it to load each one separately. Imageshack will always be the winner for posting single pics, though.

Gassville Tornado Damage

Scary stuff. Nico and I drove through again tonight and they're getting things back up and running pretty quickly. I think I know where Terry lives now, at any rate I'm 99% sure that was his car in the driveway, and if that's right he doesn't live in a trailer, lol. He mentioned owning a rental property, so that may be where I got mixed up.

If you have questions, leave them in a comment here, I'll get back to you much quicker than if you comment on Flickr.

In Gassville, Ark., Krista L****** survived the storm by huddling in the hallway of her house with her three children."It sounded like 10 to 15 freight trains at the same time," she said. "I was praying to God. It's so bad to sit there and watch your girls' faces as they're saying, 'Mom, we're going to die.'"

Krista L. being the daughter of an old church friend of mine. Article here.

I emailed him and asked if that was his Krista and I got this back:

Yes, it's my Krista and her girls. They're safe, but homeless. We emptied out their house today and put it all in storage. Also, they're staying at a resort owned by a lady at our church. Now we're looking for another house for them.

The interesting thing was this: Sabrina, Krista's oldest, was playing in the garage. At that time we figure that the twister was overturning trailers on the back road between Cotter and Gassville. Then Krista's phone rang. They wanted to talk to Sabrina so Krista called her. Sabrina came inside and that's when they began hearing the freight train sounds coming up Sanford Street between School Street and Johnson Street.

They huddled in the hall and their garage vanished. Then Krista heard a crash and glancing out the front window, she sees her van flying past her living room window.... then a tree in front fell. Then a man from up the street came and rushed them out.

You wouldn't believe that place. Our pastor and I walked through it last evening hoping to find them cause we couldn't call on any phone. We walked up Sanford Street in the dark, and had to crawl through fallen trees and watching for power lines. Finally we arrived at her house and there she was.... She was near hysterical. The children were at a neighbor's house. As they came and hugged me, I realized that a hug had never felt as wonderful as from someone whom you'd almost lost.

Thanks for your concern.

GAH. Scary, scary stuff.

Pictures up...probably tonight, I think I want to go home and be online.

I won't be able to post this because the internet is down all over town at the moment, but yeah.

Tornado came through Gassville last night (the next town down the road), tore up a lot. No more Mexican restaurant, no more McDonald's, no more truck stops, and from what I hear there's a trailer park missing, too--and I'm sure there's more gone, but I haven't heard what else. I'm fine; it never got as far as Mountain Home. All we got in town were creepy horror-movie skies/tornado alarms and torrential deluge. (As a matter of fact once we found out the internet was down Nico and I went driving in search of "spray." ...we're easily entertained.) I took pictures of the sky; they're still on my camera so I don't know if they really captured what I saw.

Hoping to hear from Rodney and Debbie--they and the kids are fine but I haven't heard one way or the other about the house that they just built. -_-*

Also just found out Terry, my boss lives in a trailer out Gassville way. He's fine and it's fine, but he's not in today. (This is not exactly out of the ordinary. He's had a record of showing up intermittently as far back as when I was interviewing.) Scary stuff.

Cell phone service is intermittent in that your phone won't ring but you'll get the voicemail, text messages take about ten minutes to send. GAH.

Nico just called to ask if I want to tag along this afternoon when he goes on a drive to see the damage. Um, yes. Will report on that.

Now, I think I just heard that they have DSL up and running so I'm gonna dash.

~*~

...Okay, so that was hours ago, internet up and running, but now I have links to post with this. McDonald's IS still standing, after all, but the rest of it was more or less right--of the two truck stops one is okay, the other has roof damage and the attached car wash is GONE, Letty's (the Mexican retaurant) is irreparable, and there are plenty of trailers that will never...trail?...again.

News!

Picture 4 on the slideshow from this page was featured on the local news, it's a still from video. I happened to catch it on my way to the bathroom earlier today. Please ignore that the people at our local paper can't spell aerial (in the links to the right).

It shouldn't be funny, but pic #7 on this slideshow is pretty much the greatest picture ever. *not laughing. not at all. no really*

I just got an email with more pics, taken by someone I work with, but I'll post them later since I'll have to upload them first.

There's a fair amount of snow on the ground, I've heard 8 inches but I'm not sure exactly. Thick enough coating.

I overslept, but got out the door in time to get here at nine--had I driven. Opened the door to the snow and went right back inside, changed shoes, packed a lunch, got another bag that would keep the snow out of my stuff, and walked to work. I was here in time to clock in at 9:30.

Rex was there to open the door for me (they are kind of glass doors and they could see me coming) and he's all, "Geez, setting yourself up for a raise, Sarah?" ^_^ All the while I'm stripping out of two coat layers and hiking boots (I brought office shoes in a Wal*Mart bag).

I'm using the empty cubicle across from me as my personal drying rack, which is working well. Kristy's driving me home.

Called Brandon to let him know there's no salsa, since (go figure!) the girl from Puerto Rico can't drive in the snow, lol. (Abi's working from home today, as is most of the office...there's like maybe 20 people here tops.) He wanted to hang out later, but A) already made plans with Kristy and B) unlike hanging with Kristy or Nico, I have no idea if he actually knows how to drive in this stuff. (Kristy learned living in Idaho/Montana and Nico learned in Chicago. I ride with them. ^_^ Brandon? Not so much.)

It's three inches on the concrete. Kristy was all "You're supposed to go measure it on the grass because concrete melts it!" but I wasn't wearing my coat, thxvrimch. So probably like five or six, I would think.

I HAS SKETTIOS FOR LUNCH YAY. And it's almost time for that!

I think I might be slightly crazy. All summer long, when I went to McDonald's I got sweet tea, no ice.

Recently I went through a phase of getting Dr. Pepper.

Now that it's (FINALLY!! *confetti*) freezing outside? McFlurries.

Screw it. Maybe I should just quit McDonald's altogether and go to Sonic more often. ^_^ OMG, new favorite there: the CREAM slush. Like a slush, only with (I guess) ice cream in it. It tastes rather like a Starkiss from DQ, but you drink it through a straw instead of licking it off a stick. ^_^

This morning when I left @ 8 it was sunny out and so warm I didn't even bother bringing a jacket "in case it's cool this evening when I get off work." Mind you, I'm wearing a light, short-sleeved shirt today.

When I left work @ 11 to go get lunch it was completely clouded over and windy enough that I ran by my house to get my light coat before going to get food.

And I really appreciate that it's cooler, but please, Mother Nature, PICK ONE OR THE OTHER AND DON'T CHANGE UNTIL YOU'RE READY TO STAY CHANGED. >_<
