[livejournal.com profile] princessnico for giving me my daily recommended amount of fabulous.

You know the drill, more random surveys under the cut... )

From the beginning, since I've really only hinted at all this so far...

So after the whole Sam thing went down, I was whining to Kristy about how I really liked the idea of online dating, since you could kind of weed out if you had anything in common and if you were looking for the same thing before you even talked to people, much less before things carried on too far, but it also kind of sucked because they're all pay-to-contact. (I was on Yahoo! Personals for a while there. It got annoying.)

Well that set her mind to churning, and she came back a day or two later and directed me to Plenty Of Fish, which is 100% free. So I signed up, and bearing in mind something Brandon had said to me back when he dumped me, I messaged any guy who met all my major criteria.

I didn't really have a lot of luck--I didn't hear back from like 95% of the guys I messaged, lol, and the ones that messaged me were mostly--GAH. I don't get how I can put "if your profile is riddled with typos, don't bother" and "no, I don't want kids, and that's an absolute must" into my profile and still have guys with horrible spelling and grammar, or who had/wanted kids, message me.

Well, there was one guy that I looked over, and was sooooo close, but because of something he'd ticked in one of the checkboxes, I didn't message him. I thought about it--kept going back to the profile and reading it over again, actually--but ended up not doing it.

Then there was the whole Katchan-is-setting-me-up-with-a-guy-in-Canada thing, and that went over like a lead balloon. While I was dealing with harsh, derisive emails from him (the nicest of the things he said being that I was nothing at all like what he'd been expecting--um...sorry?), said "so-close" guy messaged me. He included his MSN address and stuff, so a day or three after I received it, in a violent swing of "Ah, what the hell? Certainly can't go any worse than the last one!" I added him on MSN. He was online when I did so and we started chatting.

His name is Cody. We completely clicked, and there's barely been a day since when we haven't chatted in some form--I ended up giving him my phone number about two weeks into it. This all started happening in mid-May, end of May, somewhere in there. When Mom spent that week in the hospital in early July, he called me the night she was admitted and I left Mom's room and told him I wasn't sure I'd be able to talk to him while she was there, since I knew I was going to spend all my free time there with her. By the end of that week, I missed him.

Early on (like probably the third time we chatted), Cody admitted to me that he wasn't quite eighteen yet (had about six weeks to go), and I told him then and there that I wouldn't even consider meeting him in person until after his birthday, which came and went while Mom was in the hospital. He still lives at home, actually, but he graduated early and just started his second year of college yesterday. After his birthday, it was a matter of money--I still have no job (though I went on a good interview today!), and while he does work on campus, in the computer lab, his parents have a fair measure of control over his money. And by fair measure I mean total.

But what brings this all up is that he called me last night with good news--he talked to his mom, and she is (surprisingly!) completely and totally cool with him finally driving up here to see me. =D So he should be coming up for a Sunday afternoon (his only free day, between school and work) sometime in the very near future. He just started school, like I said, so it'll be a couple of weeks yet, but very, very soon. I've been on cloud nine since he told me. ^_^

And please, DO NOT comment and tell me about all the safety rules for when you meet someone from the Internet IRL. I have heard them all already, and will be following them. (Meet somewhere public, keep your phone on you, make sure someone knows where you are, etc.)

Soo...pertinent details about Cody himself? Yeah, there's quite an age difference, but if I'm not thinking about it, I forget it's there. =) His dream is to own a computer store/repair shop. He's incredibly polite, and sweet to me. He's completely geeky--he can talk circles around me when it comes to computers--and is a Mac man to boot. Not so much a reader (at least not a book reader), but when he does read it's good stuff. I just read The Picture of Dorian Gray on his recommendation. Anyone who likes Oscar Wilde obviously has impeccable taste. He's creative, has a DeviantArt and makes electronic music and YouTube videos. (Yes, he's in my friends on DA and YouTube, as well as MySpace and Facebook.) Lol, I dunno...he's just...he makes me happy inside.

I've been talking with Nico and Kristy about him, and they both assure me that from what I tell them that I'm not going off the deep end. Nico's exact words on the matter were "If you haven't fucked it up after three months, it's infallible. Go for it." -_-* Lol. (This would probably be funnier if it wasn't true.)

In other news, I got my left-ear cartilage pierced last Friday night. Long story, which I may post later, when I feel like typing another massive missive. Honestly, it was exciting at the time, but it feels like small news compared to what I just wrote. ^_^

Ten Things You Want To Say To Ten Different People:
1. I think I wrecked our relationship permanently. I seriously fucked up. I went to sleep last night with the thought that I should contact you first thing in the morning because I hadn't seen you and then you called.
2. We're never going to see 100% eye to eye, but you've opened my eyes to a lot of prejudice. I'm ashamed to admit to you that I once condoned and even supported that.
3. When I first saw you, I honestly thought you were too pretty to talk to me. Glad I was wrong.
4. I have decided that I have enough insecurities of my own and that I'm much healthier as a person since I quit worrying about conforming to yours, too.
5. Sometimes I wonder what you would have been like if you had lived, but I don't actually wish for it, because I realize that there's a good possibility that if you had, I would never have existed.
6. I figured that if there was anyone who wouldn't change because she had babies, it would be you. And as much as I love them all, I was wrong about that--sometimes I feel like we have zero in common.
7. I know you're trying to protect your daughter from bad influences, but I would really love to be able to MSN with my niece. Let her back on the internet. It's not all bad.
8. You're the only biological relative I have that actually gets me and if you had skipped the reunion, I probably would have, too.
9. You're more wishy-washy than I remembered from when I was a kid.
10. Be patient with me...I think I like you. No. I know I like you. It's just a matter of how much.

8. I love cats.
9. I own 31 pairs of shoes.

Eight Ways To Win My Heart:
1. Be creative--if you can amuse/intrigue me, you've won half the battle. "Fat penguin." "...?" "I wanted to say something that would break the ice." <=Waaaay better than something like "So what's your favorite movie?"
2. Create something--write a poem, or a song, or draw something.
3. Don't try to impress me.
4. Do your research. Anyone can send a dozen red roses, it takes a little more effort to know I'd rather have jonquils--or really, that I'd rather you buy me a present that I'll still have five years from now instead of something that'll be dead, gone, and in the trash in a few weeks at the most.
5. Brownies. Nothing funky, just plain old brownies with chocolate frosting.
6. Small, simple gestures go a long way. Leaving me a personal note or fixing something for me trumps spending lots of $$$.

8. If I'm not laughing/loling, it's already over.

Seven Things That Cross Your Mind A Lot:
1. My friends, collectively.
2. Lions stuff.
3. Elijah/LotR.
4. Near-future plans (my itinerary for the day/week, getting bills paid on time, etc.).
5. The distant future (more than a year or two away).
6. Ideas for art/fiction and the thought that I don't spend enough time on either.
7. Heh...someone.

Six Things You Wish You Never Did:
1. Called Katchan something that I KNEW full well would press one of her buttons. In retrospect I should have waited and cooled off before I said anything.

3. Talked to Hannah. I certainly don't anymore.
4. There was this one temper tantrum when I was three (or about to be three) that I actually still feel guilty for throwing, and not just because my parents still tell the story. I have no idea why I was so upset, though I remember being upset.
5. Drank the water in Mexico. IT'S ALL TRUE.
6. Listened to my mother so much.

Five Turn Offs (in a girl if you're a boy, boy if you're a girl):
1. Stupidity, always.
2. Being overly muscular.
3. Preppiness (as differentiated from metrosexuality, which is a turn-on)
4. Obsession with sports.
5. Unavailability.

Four Turn Ons:
1. Intelligence, lol.
2. Artistic creativity in some capacity--music, art, writing...
3. Dark hair+blue eyes.
4. Red hair, lol...

Three Smileys That Describe Your Life:

2. XD
3. O_o

Two Things You Want To Do Before You Die:
1. Get married (and everything that entails, wink wink).
2. Become a bestselling author.

One Confession:
I've been hesitant to say anything after the last one went so badly, but...I've met someone.

well...hm.

Katchan and I were talking on MSN earlier today.

She said she had a friend who was actively looking for a girlfriend; she told him about me and he was interested.

Like. Wow.

He's my age; I know his name, what he does...honestly, I don't want to say too much. She said she'd pass along my MSN when she next saw him (at work). He emailed me (forgivable; it's the same address after all) this evening while Katchan, Bit, and I were RPing, I just now checked my mail.

It's short--literally a line--but I'm curious. Anyone Katchan (who's known me forever) recommends as being "perfect for me" (yes, those words were used) has got something going on. :)

So I'm emailing him back, of course, nudging him to add me to MSN.

I have been advised not to show him a picture. This worries me (more than just a little...that's been a dealbreaker before -_-*), but I'm digging through Photobucket looking for a suitable userpic regardless. (I admit...the worry goes both ways, on reflection.)

And there's the long-distance thing...but I've seen it work, several times.

But, ultimately...Katchan's usually right.

True story: while composing this entry, two songs came up on shuffle, in order: E-Mail My Heart by Britney Spears (OLDSKOOL FTW) and Digital Get Down by *NSYNC. ...WTF?

I have GOT to get to bed. Lions in...seven hours. Meep.

you are lightcyan
#E0FFFF

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is very low - you have better things to do than jump headfirst into every little project. You make sure your actions are going to really accomplish something before you start because you hate wasting energy making everyone else think you're working.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

Lightning bug or firefly, more often than not the former. Funny, I never noticed that there were two different words for it until just now. Weird.
15. The little insect that curls up into a ball.
Roly-poly.
16. The children's playground equipment where one kid sits on one side and goes up while the other sits on the other side and goes down.
Seesaw or teeter-totter.
17. How do you eat your pizza?
By hand, generally, unless I'm with someone anal who uses a knife and fork, and I might follow suit. Maybe.
18. What's it called when private citizens put up signs and sell their used stuff?
Yard sale or garage sale, interchangeably. Flea market if they actually open up a shop.
19. What's the evening meal?
Dinner.
20. The thing under a house where the furnace and perhaps a rec room are?
Basement.
21. What do you call the thing that you can get water out of to drink in public places?
Drinking fountain. Ew. I'd have to be pretty desperate to use one.

1. My username is ______ because ______.
rena_librarian. Well, RenaissanceGrrl was taken (and continues to be taken) by some dominatrix who has a friends-only journal. Grr. I'd had to resort to renaissancegrrl_thelibrarian as my Yahoo! ID and LJ wouldn't take that many letters. I often answer to Rena on forums (Ren and RG and RGrrl aren't my cup of tea) so it just...made sense?

2. My name is _____ because ______.
Sarah, because my parents wanted to give me a Bible name. (After choosing names like Jennifer and Alicia) Suits me well enough, I suppose.

3. My journal is titled ____ because ____.
Until the Stars Are All Alight. It's a Tolkien quote (from the song Pippin sings in the movie) and I liked the reference to the stars. Also it generically refers to things getting better in the future. I suppose I might actually be due for a rename, lol. Things are good, other than the joblessness.

4. My journal subtitle is ____ because ____.
Call me 'cause I'm still awake. Slight paraphrase from Anna Nalick's "Breathe (2 AM)" because it's generally true--I'm very much a night owl.

5. My friends page is called ____ because ____.
Crazy People Who Like Me...which, uh...makes sense? Lol.

6. My default userpic is ____ because ____.
The Éowyn one Hobbity made for me...because I designed it and had it made for me.

LAST PERSON WHO...
Slept in your bed: Just moi.
Saw you cry: Huh. I can't even think of the last time I--oh snap. Kristy. Sorta. Over Sam.
Made you cry: Sam. But only a little.
Spent the night at your house: Nico.
You went to the movies with: Kristy, Jared, EJ...uh...Raymond was there, I THINK Dena was there, EJ's man whose name escapes me (but I know it starts with a J!), and a friend of theirs.
You went to the mall with: Kristy and Abi!
Yelled at you: Hmm...Nico, probably?
Sent you an e-mail: Uh...Maryanne sent me the Lions newsletter and if I got anything after that it was automated.
You kissed: No one. *sob*

HAVE YOU EVER...
Said "I love you" and meant it?: Not to a guy. Never said it. Wanted to. Would have meant it if I had.
Gotten in a fight w/your dog/cat/bird/fish,etc.: Uh, no.
Been to New York? I saw the Statue of Liberty from a grounded plane, and I think we drove through it once when I was a kid, but not in any kind of meaningful way.
Been to Florida? Lived there for six months. I turned three there.
California? Twice, I think. I was really little. WINCHESTER MANSION FTW!
Hawaii? No, and have no desire to go unless it has something to do with Lost.
Mexico? Yes, actually. DON'T DRINK THE WATER. IT'S ALL TRUE.
China? Nope.
Canada? Three times, if you count Niagara Falls when I was young enough to be in a stroller. Twice otherwise.
Danced naked? Mmm, not really. I get enough of a kick walking around in the process of changing clothes or getting ready for a shower.
Dreamed something really crazy and then it happened the next day: I've had lots of deja vus from dreams, but they take longer than the next day.
Wish you were the opposite sex? Mmm, only to escape my period. Girls kick ass.
Had an imaginary friend? More than one. And at ages I don't care to admit.

STUFF...
Have you ever loved someone you had no chance with: ...every time. And currently. -_-*
Have You Ever Cried Over Something Someone of The Opposite Sex Did: More than once...
Do You Have A "Type" Of Person You Always Go After: I think I do, but then I end up falling for someone completely NOT that type...
Want Someone You Don't Have Right Now: Yeah.
Ever Liked a close Guy/Girl Friend: Yeah...currently? I don't know that we're really friends but we spend a lot of time around each other because we have mutual friends that we're close to.
Are You Lonely Right Now: After those questions? Yeah.
Ever Afraid You'll Never Get Married: It's crossed my mind more than once.
Do You Want To Get Married: Oh, yes.
Do You Want Kids: Not in the slightest.

Because the food poisoning (or flu, whichever) and resultant facial rash (I think; I'm blaming it on that anyway--luckily it's not THAT bad, I didn't bother with makeup for it because you'd have to be pretty darn observant to notice it behind my hair and freckles) weren't bad enough, now apparently the inside of my eyelid has an open wound or something--which doesn't hurt, but feels the sting when I put contact fluid in my eye. (It looks red on the inside. Like incision-red. GOD, I hope it's not a sty. My dad used to get those damn things all the time.

-_- Oh, and I didn't even tell you where I think I contracted the food poisoning. Nico brought me free Taco Bell on his way home from work Sunday night. Sympathy free-Taco-Bell because Brandon had come over in the afternoon and gave me the "You're really awesome, but I only want to be friends. Because you are awesome. Just not quite awesome enough" speech.

Which was really sweet of him, in theory (and now that he's off work and I'm not sick anymore we're having a girls' night tonight) but GOD DAMN IT LIKE I WASN'T MISERABLE ALREADY THANKS NOW I'M SICK. Which is not Nico's FAULT, mind you. But Fate and Irony are cruel masters.

And, yes, I'm a bit more upset about the Brandon thing than I thought I would be. Mainly because I kind of figured that a little while down the road, if it became clear that our differences were, in fact, not work-around-able, I would be the one breaking it gently to him. *sigh* So we'll see if he can keep it up--he has to prove that he really does want to stay friends. He blew me off Monday to hang with his grandparents (they were making dinner special, or something, I kind of quit listening to the voicemail after "I won't be able to come over,

Scary thing? Katchan was telling me that you know, if he and I stay friends, there may still be a shot at some point in the future, and I didn't even care about that. The rationalization that let me survive Kyle back in the day seems silly to me now. Not sure if I'm getting jaded or just appropriately thick-skinned with age. Cynical, for sure, but at least that's entertaining.

Speaking of entertaining, fun story/reason not to eat at Taco Bell of the day: Yesterday it was really windy, as in "woke me out of a dead sleep because I thought I heard the siding ripping off" "they're re-shingling Nico's building" "wind advisory in the corner of my screen as I watch relatively crappy daytime TV" windy. Apparently the Taco Bell sign (yes, the one on the giant pole out front) exploded (imploded? I wasn't there), fell down, got blown across five lanes of highway, hit a car, and in the process knocked out the power to literally half of TB. Half the lobby, half the kitchen. Everyone got sent home except Steve, and they were in this half-powered state until ten PM. In the malfunctioning half? The FREEZER. Well, the air-circulator worked. There was just nothing to make that circulated air COLD. Nico's advice? Don't eat there until tomorrow at the soonest. NICE.

I'm tempted to start a Taco Bell tag, but I realize of course that all entries detailing TB dalliances include Nico one way or another. No point.

I just realized. Maybe the thing inside my eye is the RASH that's also on my face. Creepy! -_-*

Kristy? This question is dumb, lol.

38. LEAST LIKELY TO RESPOND?
*looks over list* ...Ashley or Linda.

39. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING?
I have a book of one-act plays in my bag now (one of those textbooks I didn't sell back; I think it was from Fine Arts: Theater, but it might have been one my acting classes...or both, now that I think about it, because I know we were thinking of putting on one of the plays in it), plus I have a book of Tolkien short stories and poems at home that I'm reading. I think that's it. I might be reading a third one as well...haha.

Canada pics, if anyone's interested: MY GODDAUGHTER IS SO ADORABLE!

So I texted April to let her know about my Mary Kay party (which is next Tuesday at my house, should you care to join us, call me and we'll talk details), and when she texted me back she asked how old I am--an odd question, I thought. (Note that the following refers to text messages, so sometimes the same person goes twice in a row.)

S (me): 21. Why?
April: My friend was wondering.
S: Oh...are we talking a cute, straight, single guy friend?
A: He wants to meet you. He asked about you when you sent me that message.
S: What's his name and how old is he?
A: He raised his hand and said "that's me!"
A: His name is Brandon and he's 24.
S: Okay...I can't come over tonight but give him my number, I'm free the rest of the evenings this week.
A: Okay.

*a few moments of squeeing and such later*

S: Is he in your MySpace friends?
A: No.
S: Aw, darn, I thought I would get to snoop a little.
A: Can you send us a picture? Our internet's down.
A: *sends a pic while I'm typing my reply*
S: Sure, if he goes first.
A: I sent you a pic of him.
S: *pic of self* Sorry, I got that right after I sent my message.
A: He says he'll call you Wednesday and you can go out Thursday.

"Wednesday" is TOMORROW.

And folks, the man is CUTE. OMFG. This is promising.

*sigh*

So it's one month to Valentine's Day and I'm not any closer to not spending it alone than I ever have been. -_- Yet another SAD--Single Awareness Day. (Why yes, I am well aware of how appropriate that acronym is!)

And exactly one month after that is my birthday. I'm looking forward to it; I'm in an even better place than I was LAST year when it rolled around (both the nicer apartment and in life), but turning 22 makes me feel OLD. I think it's mostly because 21 is the last "landmark" birthday before the over-the-hill birthdays come along. The next landmark is 30. On the bright side, this puts me in the same age group as all my friends that are older (Katchan, Nico, Jacqui, Kristy...more or less all my close RL friends but Michele...)

But damn. I kind of figured that by this point of my life I'd've been in at least one relationship. Whether it worked out or not would be immaterial. (I doubt I'd end up married to anyone that I would have started dating before I moved out.)

On the bright side, that's the only thing I've set out to do at some point in my life that I HAVEN'T accomplished...

Meh. I'm vaguely irritated by this but not nearly as upset as I could be. (It will be worse as the days roll closer, I assure you. There's a WHOLE MONTH in which, you never know, I could magically obtain a secret admirer. *goes off to delude self until then*)

I can't believe I didn't say this earlier.

ESME SAID MY NAME! ^_^

I was carrying her around at the fabric store (more Katchan's domain than mine) and she was saying "Mumumumumumum..." and I was all "Sar-ah? Sar-ah?"

And it came out more like "Shisz-ruh," and she never did do it again, but hey, she's not even a year old. I'll take what I can get. ^_^

I have to leave in the morning. ;_;

I'll be home...Sunday sometime? I guess? Jennifer's picking me up at the airport and I'm staying with her overnight before I drive home. 4.5 hours on plane + 2.5 hour layover + 5 hour drive = TOO MUCH.

So if Jennifer is cool with it my plan is to sleep in Sunday and leave at or before 2. That gets me in MH around 6 or 7. Ish. When I drive alone I don't stop a lot, lol.

Must pack. *sigh*

Though I'm coming home with a new DreamCast (since my old one...died...), some new clothes and jewelry, (finally) wallet-sized pics of Esme so I can show her off with the other kids, and lots of digital pics of Esme. LAWL.

I might be getting Photoshop. Hopefully. Because now I WANTS IT. *pokes Katchan* I'm going to finish my picture after I finish packing/Justin gets off the desktop, and I shall post it on DA. ^_^

And a tablet. I NEEEEEEEEEED A TABLET ZOMGWTFBBQ!!

Apparently my bank has freaked out. I used my debit card today and suddenly I can't log in to balance my checkbook. FTW? Not sure if I mis-typed my password too many times or if they're thinking my card got stolen since I used it in Canada. (Nico, am I right in thinking that the same thing happened to you the first time you went to Chicago with this bank?) So grr. Will have to handle that once I land in Minneapolis and can use my phone again. Grr. Grr. Grr.

Aside to Shelly: I was going to work on chapter on the plane up but due to unforeseen circumstances (the seats were angled in such a way that I couldn't open my laptop to where I could SEE THE SCREEN O_O) I couldn't. *cries* But I might tomorrow night at Jen's if she's all wanting to go to bed early. Or maybe Sunday if I get back at such a time that I can't hang with Nico.

We have to leave @ like 5:30. AM. *headdesk*

I just watched Day Zero with Kat online.

SQUEE.

Apparently all the things that attract me to Elijah are what make him unmanly...? O_o

Ahh, screw other people's opinions. I LURRRRRRVES him. *glomps Elijah*

BTW, folks, I'm in Canada. Nothing exciting has happened yet.

Sat with a hot black med student on the plane but unfortunately his sister was sitting between us. And I think I might have caught her cold. Maybe. The sniffles are fading but I'm not sure if that's the cold going away or me getting used to the cat. (FERAL! Who happens to look like the I Can Has Cheezburger cat. You know, this one.)

I <3 flying. I hate security. I probably would have taken Kat's advice about comfortable shoes if I had remembered that I was going to have to TAKE THEM OFF. I ended up flashing my unshaven legs to the people going through security with me (which, as Katchan pointed out, means I flashed them internationally. Gee thanks.).

I think we're going out today. I need to switch my $$$ to...$$$. Ha. And in case you're wondering, we needed cash at the airport and I switched a $20 for Canadian dollars and got like $18.75. (There you go Nico, your bit of financial news for the day.)

Esme=still adorable. Imagine that. ^_^

Christmas

FINALLY caught up on the flist and I had to go back 240 entries. I fail.

(I also have a couple of RSS feeds and comms and such...one of my favorite webcomics finally went the way of RSS, so I don't have to go to their site anymore, yay!...)

Christmas. Yay. I got all my presents wrapped yesterday, including Dad's bday present. His bday is tomorrow; a week before my family traditionally opens presents (Christmas Eve). Sucks to be him. You know he ends up getting two crap presents from everyone instead of one decent one like the rest of us.

Nico was over last night and he was asking me all our routine one-of-us-is-going-out-of-town questions, and after that, he was all, "Dude, when you get back, one weekend in January, we should go to the club." And I had SO been thinking that that day and the day before. ^_^ So yay.

Finalizing plans for Canada--I have my ticket (well, my eticket confirmation number and such), but I still don't know exactly where in the house I'll be sleeping and whatnot. Nor what we'll be doing, though Katchan keeps mentioning something about hot Canadian men... *cough*

OMG. I just realized that I won't have a CD player or MP3 player for all the flying I'll be doing. FTW? MUST. FIX. Mayhap try to resurrect the old one again, maybe? ...if I can remember where I threw it during the move...?

Watching Sex and the City on DVD. It's funny and now Nico and I are going to have more quotes, but I can't say that I'm all "ZOMG HOW DID I GO THIS LONG WITHOUT WATCHING THIS?" Though if Carrie doesn't end up with Mr. Big--and we don't find out his real name--I WILL be severely disappointed. (NO SPOILERS, kplzthx!)

I made Lunch Crumble (the recipe I got from Marvelous Mail) last night. OMG GOODNESS.

I have all the stuff to make REAL eggnog. (Rum included, since I'd had a bottle of brandy in the house before.) Will let you know how it turns out.

ETA: TV on DVD vs. TV on Internet? Hmm. Here's South Park for ya.
