It's my birthday on the 14th, and we're going to St. Louis next weekend. They asked me what I wanted to do, and I want to go to the Mills Mall.

I just checked, and there is a DDR machine there.

BOO-YAH! Two birds with one stone.

I almost forgot the most exciting part about Branson!

THERE'S AN ARCADE WITH A DDR MACHINE!!!

I played! I sucked! But I had fun!

When I first got there, there was this kid, he couldn't have been more than 12 or 13. He was playing it on HEAVY mode. Getting frickin' A's!!!

I got B's...sometimes...on LIGHT mode...

I have come to the conclusion that I'm never going to get any better unless I quit playing Beginner mode and start playing Light. So that's what I'm doing.

Song highlights (I could never remember the scores I made on them, lol, but I was so happy to play them!)

  • Butterfly (hence the sprakly butterfly shirt from the last entry)
  • Dam Dariram (a classic song, everyone talks about it at DDRfreak.com)
  • Ordinary World (the best DDR song EVER...the only one easy enough on Light that I risked Standard...did okay the first time and horribly the other two, lol)
  • Somewhere Over the Rainbow techno remix (I'm still not sure if that was the coolest or scariest song I've ever heard...it WAS wicked hard because it started so SLOW and it's much harder to time your steps with no beat!)
  • Ecstasy (have that one on CD, couldn't NOT play it)

Hehehe. We went to Branson over the weekend, and among other things I FINALLY found a place that sells covers for my phone. So now I have a clear/purple phone, with black buttons that have white stars on them. WHEE! It's kind of funny. Years ago, when I was really little, my cousin Tammy had a clear phone (back in the day when you still had to plug them into the wall! Remember that?) and I thought it was the coolest thing, lol. Now it's nothing. XD

But my phone DOES look really, really cool. ^_^

Anyway. We saw a show called Stuck on the 70's, and I went in thinking I might know about 25% of the music and knew more like 90%, so that made me happy. It was so much fun, but there's no describing a Branson show--either you've seen one or you haven't, and there's no explaining it. But let's just say there was good music, some very hot guys (no worries, not hot enough to bump Elijah or Orli or anyone off my list!), and if you ever come over we can watch the video.

During one part of the show, one of the aforementioned hot guys comes down to the front row and sings a song to a woman sitting in the front row (presumably they always pick an older woman). He picked MY MOM! MY MOM! And we have it on video! XD I'm torn between utter jealousy (Dude! Over HERE!) and utter joy at having my mom's most embarrassing moment on tape! He totally sat on her lap and waved to the camera. XD WHEE! It was so fricking hilarious I can't even describe it!

Got to do some shopping. Finds: A little purple bobbleheaded zebra that is now Handi Tack-ed to my dashboard and named George for no apparent reason, some books (an Animorphs! And, like, five classic novels!), a t-shirt with a glittery butterfly and the Japanese for "Harmony" on it (more on that later), a pair of silver kitty earrings, and a mood ring (it's shaped like butterflies!).

I was playing with the mood ring. It has everything to do with temperature and nothing to do with mood, lol. I put my hand in front of my AC's blower and suddenly my mood was totally different, lol...

I DID order LotR checks, but they haven't gotten here and since I'm on my last pad of checks, I used my debit card all weekend. CHA-CHING! It's FUN to do that. Really. (Plus it's easier than trying to get people to take out-of-town checks, methinks.) Anyway, here's my next purchase, once I get the checks... I figure I'll still have that long after the checks stop selling. *shrug* And yes...I will be holding four of them back and never writing them...hehehe...

Renewed my subscription ot Sonic via phone, also with the debit card. I got tired of all the runarounds I had with the company via mail, and that's just a phone call and I'm all set. ^_^

I got a telemarketer on my cell phone the other day. She called and said I was in some sweepstakes. Okay. Whatever. Then she said that they wanted to give me magazine subscriptions...okay...she gave me a list of four to pick from, and I picked Rolling Stone. "Okay, Sarah, that's a great choice, that's the only one the publishers want you to help out with, and for -amount- a month for 48 months..." I interrupted her. "If that's the only one I have to pay for, let's make it TV Guide instead." ... "Okay, Sarah, that's a great choice, that's the only one the publishers want you to help out with, and for -amount- a month for 48 months..." So I stopped her again and told her, "No, listen, I'm working a minimum-wage job and I can't afford that." (Not technically true, I'm making a little bit more than that and I probably could afford it if I really wanted to. But I don't.) "But that's such a great deal--" I told her again that I couldn't afford it and do you know what? SHE hung up on ME! BWAHAHAHA! I annoy the telemarketers so much that THEY hang up on ME! XD So, Ashley the telemarketer, if you ever read this--for the record, I WIN! XD

But really. When she told me TWICE that my choice was the ONLY one I needed to pay for, that kind of pricked my ears. HELL-LO, scammers!

And I think the amounts she quoted me were NOT the "low rates" that she said they were, but were actually MORE than the cover price to just go and buy it every week... >_< Anyway. They didn't get my money. Period.

OH! I got an ice shaver!! I spent more than I wanted to, but gosh darn it, I can have a shaved ice any time I want to, all year long, and I don't have to keep spending two dollars at a time here and there. So HA! Tropical Sno! HA! Sonic slushes! I laugh at you, for I can duplicate your results in the comfort of my kitchen! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

And yes. It works. You do have to use real syrup, though. I tried pouring soda over mine and it just came out to be really watered-down soda. Nasty. Luckily I have the recipe to make real syrup, too! It's lots of sugar and a little water and a packet of Kool-Aid mix. I can post the recipe if anyone wants it...

Is anyone else familiar with the work of children's author Stephen Cosgrove, most particularly the book "Serendipity"? (No connection to the romantic comedy of the same name.)

I couldn't go to camp this year for the whole week, but I'm dropping in for a visit tomorrow. I'm taking Shelly her new chapter (as in, the one that's fifty chapters ahead of what's online). I'm tempted to post a snippet for Hobbity to find this weekend...

Aw, what the heck? )

Anyways...let's see...I'm up for a promotion at work! Steve offered to tell Ken that he wanted to make me a Cleaning Specialist if I wanted it, and I said YES! So maybe here in a few weeks I'll have a shiny silver nametag. ^_^ And I'm likely getting a raise anyway! WHEE! I keep getting compliments from customers on my "pleasant voice" and "good attitude". One guy actually told me to tell my boss that I deserved a raise...so I told Steve that he said that...and Steve said he already had me down for a raise! WHEE!

So I love my job at the moment.

I called Shelly to let her know about tomorrow, and she said Carol would be happy to see me, and that Carol was disappointed that I couldn't come. Huh. That's interesting. Maybe because when Carol talks I smile and nod and I'm not rude to her, lol. I'm sure she has very few people like that. (Nobody really likes her...she tells the same stories over, and over, and OVER...and she can be persnickety...)

Anyway. What else? Oh, I was going to call Kyle to see if he wanted to tag along, but he's gone for the weekend. Oh well. I tried.

After I come home, we're turning around and going to Branson for the weekend. We're going to see a show. We're going to get to shop. We're staying overnight in a hotel. I GET TO PLAY DDR ON A REAL MACHINE! HALLELUJAH!!!

I really like that word right now. Hallelujah. Between the song of that title on the Shrek soundtrack and "Ramp! (The Logical Song)" by Scooter, I've heard it about fifty jillion times in the past few days...

I'm putting a Frodo banner in my siggy at DLBE. Because I can. 'Tis Frodo, but it fits the mood of the board, too... "Whatever you did, you've been officially labeled a disturber of the peace." XD There was one of Frodo in the snow (ooh, snow, pwetty...) and one of him from the big RotK reunion scene that said "Is everything sad going to come untrue?" But like I said, the one I picked fits the board so well.

WHEE! I'm ordering my LotR checks today! I need to, I'm on my last pad of checks...

Now...what else was I supposed to do online??? I feel I'm forgetting something...

Also found out that Nico has incredible taste in music as well as books. Borrowed one CD to burn and he was all, "If you like that take this one, too!"

See, when we were driving over the dam he was playing DJ Sammy, and he was skipping to a certain track and I was all, "Wait, wait, go back!"

It was "Heaven" by DJ Sammy...

...Which is on DDR. I nearly died. (I didn't recognize the artist's name but I sure as heck recognized the SONG!)

The other CD is club remixes of 80's songs. That same song is on there, (didn't realize "Heaven" was an 80's song but whatever..."Baby, you're all that I want/when I'm lying here in your arms/I'm finding it hard to believe/we're in Heaven...") as well as mixes of three other songs that I'm familiar with. I've listened to all but the last three songs and I'm burning that CD, too, lol. The remixes of "(I Just) Died In Your Arms" and "Tainted Love" were amazing, and I'm curious about "Total Eclipse of the Heart" too. ^_^

When I give them back and he realizes that he can trust me with CD's, I'm totally raiding his collection, lol. ^_-

HTML question for those with fancier journals and more time to play around than I: How you make one of those little scrolling thingies, where the text moves across from one side to the other? (They're in Kade's journal all the time.)

Okay. I feel better now. Mom made stuffed crust pizza (yes, it can be homemade! I'm the one that figured it out!) for dinner and then we had ice cream cake (my preference) and cupcakes, one of which had a candle in it. ^_^ And I got balloons! I haven't gotten birthday balloons in forever, and I don't know that I've ever had ones with helium in them. ^_^ There's two normal purple ones and one mylar one that's shaped like a heart, also purple, and it says "Happy Birthday" and all that. ^_^ And Mom said whenever we do go to St. Louis, I can take that one and refill it. (Any mylar balloon can be refilled as many times as you want, so long as you never tear it. It reseals itself. When the boys were born they refilled some of the really fancy mylars from when Madison was born, and that was over three years apart.)

Alicia left me SIXTEEN voice messages today. Like one was Madison singing "Happy Birthday" and then one was all, "Can you hear me now?" for like, five minutes and then "Happy Birthday!" and then one was Maddy singing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and one was "You did know today's your birthday, right? 'Cause, you know, in case you forgot..." for five minutes. It was hilarious. I started listening to them when I left my bank and they were still going when I got to Wal*Mart. (And that's no small drive!!) Jennifer left me one, too, sang "Happy Birthday" to me. Then when Jason got home he was GOING to leave one, but I had already turned my phone on and actually picked up, and it freaked him out. ^_^ Apparently Alicia thought I worked until eight, which has never happened, but whatever. ^_^ So that was funny, he barely remembered to say "Happy Birthday."

And speaking of my bank, today was PAYDAY!!! YAY! It's great--I'm making less per hour than I did at SubWay, and there's more deductions because I have insurance now, but my total paycheck was more than it used to be because I'm working more hours. YAY! And I now have just over $2,000 in the bank--time to go CAR SHOPPING! (My manager, whenever I ask, says I'm doing a fine job, and starting next Monday my hourly pay is going up another 25 cents! YAY!)

So after work I deposited my check, then trucked over to Wal*Mart and bought myself a birthday present...I got a second piercing in my ears. ^_^ Not up in the cartilage or anything, but just up and back from where the first holes are. I plan on wearing small studs or tiny hoops in them and wearing my usual dangly earrings in the first ("main," in my mind) holes. I've been wanting to do it since I was fourteen, and Mom said no, but then much later I pointed out that once I turned eighteen she couldn't stop me. She agreed and I've been meaning to do it since my last birthday, but it's one of those things that I kind of forgot about until a few weeks ago. (I think it was a question on one of those quizzes that reminded me, lol.) So I told myself I ought to do it for my birthday, and I decided to go ahead. And I totally did. Just up and randomly did it because I could. (Well, not totally randomly--the first piercings were my 12th birthday present and I thought it was fitting to go back on another birthday...but I don't plan on getting any more, it's not like I have the desire to get a piercing on every seventh birthday from now on!) Discovering that the price of a piercing had gone down since my first ones didn't hurt, either...I mean, it's still "free with the purchase of piercer earrings," but the earrings are much cheaper.

Here's the kicker--I haven't told Mom or Dad. And I'm not going to. I'm not going to do a single thing to hide them, like cover them with my hair when I'm around them, but for all the fuss they made when I first suggested it ("You'll look like a punk, that's not ladylike, it'll be SO obvious..."), I just want to see if they even notice. The longer it takes them, the harder they fall. I'm going to be totally honest about it, but they have to see them first. Methinks it'll probably be next week when I have reason to wear earrings again. Since I can only have tiny studs in at work, I'm just going to wear the piercer earrings this week and nothing in the main holes. So on Monday, when I go to school and wear two pairs of earrings, then Mom will probably notice, but I highly doubt she'll see them before that.

Mom and Dad only got me one present. However, I have to say, if I had been handed back my birthday list (yes, I make a list, at Mom's request) and told to pick one thing off of it and that would be the one thing I was getting--well, they picked it.

I GOT A PS2!!!!! *nances around with joy* And it's the new little skinny one at that. I wouldn't have cared one bit either way, but that's what happened to be at the store.

So now I can play the pseudo-DDR game that came with my DDR pad! I played it for about an hour with the normal contorller, and once I figured out which button was which (they're X, O, A, and D in my mind, lol, not X, O, triangle, and square, and yeah, this game doesn't use up/down/left/right like DDR does, which makes it much more difficult) I was zipping through the ranks. Then I played around and figured out that all my "zipping" was worthless without a memory card (which I figured would be the case), unless I wanted to leave the PS2 on constantly. Nuh-uh, not happening. So then I hooked up the DDR pad and tried stomping it out just once, but the silly people didn't put X, O, A, and D in the same positions on the pad as they did on the basic controller (X and A are backwards on the pad compared to where they are on the controller), so I got all confused and was all sucky again, lol. (And before anyone asks, rotating the pad wouldn't help, I'd have to flip it over and use it upside-down. Which, theoretically, could be done, but I would have to like, mark out the back with masking tape or something...) And the music is kinda sucky on this game, especailly compared to DDR. Clearly DDR put a lot of time in effort into having top-quality music and graphics.

But anyway, now my dilemma is this: Do I want to spend $20 tomorrow on a memory card so I can advance in the sucky-ish game (I don't HATE it...) and save my progress (I doubt that it'd take more than three weeks to beat it all the way through, and I think I'm WAY overestimating by giving it that long, even given my lack of skill/talent), or do I want to spend it on real DDR so I can have better music, better graphics, and more logical (though not necessarily easier) gameplay but be stuck at entry level until I can get another $20 for a memory card? (Kat, you'd be the one to answer that.) And especially with a Game eXchange coming to Mountain Home soon, I hesitate to buy anything at Hastings... *Is looking forward to buying other PS2 games cheap! Especially the LotR games!*

DDR has such great music. Really. The game I have now, I can't remember a single thing of the music that I repeated for an hour, whereas DDR, you can come away having heard a song off of it once and have it stuck in your head for forever. (Kat--what's the name of the song that had the really pretty Asian girl in the background and started "Came in from a rainy Thursday..."? I've had it stuck in my head for like, a week-and-a-half now...) Seriously, "Butterfly" by SMile DK is one of my all-time favorite songs, and it's from DDR. "Ai, ai, ai, I'm your little butterfly, green, black and blue, make the colors in the sky..." And on that note, I'm going to bed, I'm going to wake up in, like, six hours so I have time to post this for you all, lol...
