1. leave me a comment saying, 'interview me'.
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. update your LJ with the answers to the questions. (You must do this, even if it's filtered for my eyes only!)
4. include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. when others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

Her questions, and my answers:

1. If you could only listen to one CD for the rest of your life what would it be and why?
I'd have to make a mix CD. I'd just have to. It would have some WWS, two of the songs Cody made for me, and...IDK. I'd probably agonize for days and end up regretting either forgetting or including something. (Of course I could just cop out and say I'd be perfectly fine with one CD because I usually listen to downloaded music on my mp3 player anyway and very rarely handle any kind of physical media. =P) If I had to had to pick out an existing album, it would probably be WWS's self-titled CD. =) There's a little something on there for more or less every mood.

2. What fictional character do you most identify with?
Éowyn from Lord of the Rings--I've thought about this quite a lot, actually. =)

3. Tell me something you would like to accomplish in your life, be it great or small, realistic or improbable.
I'd like to get a novel published.

4. What is your favorite scary movie? Or, what movie scared the piss out of you as a child?
Haha--I was a very wimpy little kid, so we won't even go there. But I really like The Ring--it's more of a mindfuck with very little gore, the way horror ought to be. I won't watch something like Saw or Hostel. (And I was totally just commenting more or less the same thing to [livejournal.com profile] tyrel_roo a little bit ago, lol...)

5. If you could have dinner with any person, living or dead, who would you choose?
Oh. Oh God. I might come up with something different if I thought about it for a while, but the name that immediately leaps into my head is Neil Gaiman. And yes, I think he even beats out Tolkien. Dinner with Tolkien would probably devolve into nitpicking over details or reading a list of questions from everyone I know or (most likely) a heated argument over why he made Frodo sail over the Sea. I have no such gripes with Gaiman. His books always end how they're supposed to. XD

And, gacked from [livejournal.com profile] gamgeefest:

01. What are your nicknames? Pretty much just the sweet nothings Cody calls me and Rena for online. Sometimes Strobel/Strobelite from the people who I worked with at TB.
02. How does your hair look currently? Red, past my shoulders. Needs to be dyed again and the split ends trimmed, but I'm not willing to pay $15 for the latter.
03. What's new in your life right now? Wedding planning. XD
04. How many colours are you wearing now? Three. Blue jeans, brown t-shirt with orange graphic.
05. Are you an introvert or extrovert? Mmm, depends, but I make an effort to be extroverted when the situation allows.
06. What was the last book you read? I just finished K-PAX by Gene Brewer. Currently reading some Animorphs books I got in exchange for the old books of Cody's that we sold. =D
08. Who is your favorite super hero? Batmint. Not a typo.
09. Is there anything that has made you happy these days? Cody!
10. What's your current obsession? ...wedding planning.
11. How long does it take you to get ready in the morning? About 30 minutes if I pick out my clothes the night before.
12. What websites do you visit daily? LJ, Go Fug Yourself, Facebook, email. Others but not necessarily every day.
13. Do you write fic? What was the last fic you wrote? Yes, and it was a chapter for D2D.
14. What's the last thing you laughed about? Cody, though I'm not sure what the LAST funny thing was.
15. What's the last song that got stuck in your head? Hmm. Probably Idioteque by Radiohead, it's certainly the first one that leaps to mind because it's gotten stuck in my head like a zillion times recently. "Dammit, Cody, Idioteque is in my head again. I hate you." (It's one of "his" songs.)
16. What's the last movie you saw? Hmm. DVD player is gone and Playstation doesn't like the new (to me) TV, so it's hard to remember, but I think Cody and I watched Labyrinth. My man is in love with David Bowie, but he won't admit it. I'm okay with it. =)
17. Do you buy or download the movies you watch? Download. XD
rena_librarian: (Default)

I read it. You should too.

Seriously, Kimono's Townhouse is awesome--it's about two girl geeks (one more literary, the other more comics and computers) who barely know each other sharing a house...and oh yeah, it's acted out by My Little Ponies. =)

And if you don't believe me, here are a few of my favorites:
I think I've been hackered! (Hackered!)
New Year's Resolutions (I am Minty, here...)
Status: Not Amused (This is one where the expressions make the comic...I don't know how she does it, working with toy horses.)
Most Offensive Player (And here I'm Kimono. XD)

And better yet...if you're bad about checking up on things (I can be...), they have a LiveJournal, so you can just add them to your friends list: [profile] kimonos_house

And they're at that stage where if you want to go back and start at the beginning, the way I always do when I start reading a comic, it's not going to take you weeks to get caught up, but you're also not going to be craving more and be disappointed in the lack of content.

So check it out--so far I've gotten Kristy reading it, and even Nico and Cody have laughed at it now and again.

And I'm TOTALLY NOT doing this because they're now offering free wallpapers to anyone who posts a link on their page. TOTALLY.

My mom's in the hospital.

She had a blood clot, and the 17-hour plane ride back from Thailand caused pieces of it to break off and they got stuck in her lungs, causing shortness of breath. She got lightheaded and had to ride around airports in a wheelchair--twice--and though I told her the first time that I talked to her that she needed to get to the emergency room, it took two days and my grandmother crying to get her to go. (My Grandma Crawford kicks ass. Srsly.)

They've got her on blood thinners and she's going to be fine, but they're keeping her at the hospital to monitor it all--she's hooked up to a heart monitor, but other than the wack hospital gowns, she looks totally normal. However I've been spending most of my free time (and I do have a glut of it at the moment, thanks to my joblessness) at the hospital, which is NOT a WiFi hotspot (I asked; medical records were hacked so internet was discontinued for patients), so I haven't had time to be online. Her blood thickness level is 1.1 as of this afternoon and she gets to leave when it's 2.5, which they're guessing will be Sunday. (Yeah, I'm not sure if they're unthinning it after having her on heavy doses of thinners or if they're trying to thin it more. Probably the former...?)

Anyway, I'm behind on LJ, so comments will be sparse, lol.

In other news, I solved a Rubik's Cube completely from memory for the first time tonight--at Nico's at 2:37 AM. YAY. We went to Wal*Mart and I purchased my own darn cube in celebration. Am planning to take it with me to the hospital tomorrow and show off.

OH, and they brought me back a purple sake set with a black serving tray. Pics eventually. It's AWSHUM.

And Kristy got me a fish; a purple betta. Contemplating names, pics eventually. Lol.

The word from the paper is that they actually had another position open up, they're talking about combining the two positions, not sure what they're doing and no one's in the office to discuss until Monday, etc. He did say that my name came up in the discussions. =D Sooo...hopefully I hear back on Monday.

Anyone else out there who's not able to get enough of those videos where people set up dominoes in elaborate patterns and knock them all over? You know, they'd be on Sesame Street now and again, and I know I saw one on Mr. Rogers, or on the news...

Well, have I got the YouTube channel for you: FlippyCat!

Yes. I'm sure there are others. But dude has a CAT who's in almost all the vids, and they're wicked elaborate.

My favorites, thus far:

Is This Your Card? (reminds me of Dad, lol)
14,000 Piece Puzzle
Split Ends
Dominoes From Dominoes
Low Clearance 2"
Domona Lisa

Yes, I've spent about half an hour watching these things. Yes, I subscribed. No, I don't need a life. Look at the stuff people with lives miss!

I was on my MySpace homepage and saw this ad:

It then changed to say "MySpace Transmissions presents," then changed to "A concert..." with interviews or some such.

With that shirt? And that hair? At a piano?

I totally thought it was about Drive Shaft. XD 'Tis not, unfortunately.

Overheard in New York is amazing. This was on my flist today:

Girl #1: "Its so annoying how your phone wont learn to spell 'fuck'.
Girl #2: Yeah. It wont spell "fucked" either, thats the one I have trouble with.
Girl #1: Yeah. Like it always spells "ducked".
Girl #2: Yeah. And I don't wanna be ducked, I wanna be fucked!.

The runners-up in the headline contest (if you follow the link) are pretty funny, too. Some funnier than the chosen one.

Yes, it's a REAL ad, upcoming for the Playstation 3. Beware the eyerape (NOT SAFE FOR WORK), but also note: It's a thumb, not a penis. But it takes a second to click...

What exactly are they trying to imply...? Every time I think I've grasped it, I realize I haven't.

EDIT: First comment for the win!

you are lightcyan
#E0FFFF

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is very low - you have better things to do than jump headfirst into every little project. You make sure your actions are going to really accomplish something before you start because you hate wasting energy making everyone else think you're working.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

Huh. The analysis is true enough, but I wanted to be purple...lol.

DIALECT MEME...
1. A body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks.
Depending on my mood--probably a creek, but possibly a brook or stream.
2. What the thing you push around the grocery store is called.
Cart. Shopping cart, if it's not in immediate context (ie, not, "Can I put my purse in the cart?", but like "She was pushing a shopping cart around the city.")
3. A metal container to carry a meal in.
Bento box! Nah, probably a lunchbox. Unless it's mine.
4. The thing that you cook bacon and eggs in.
Frying pan.
5. The piece of furniture that seats three people.
Air mattress. (Haha, kidding, only at Kristy's house the last few weeks.) Couch.
6. The device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof.
Gutter. Also where many minds reside.
7. The covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening.
Porch. Possibly deck if it's high off the ground.
8. Carbonated, sweetened, non-alcoholic beverages.
Soda, if I'm not referring to it by the brand name.
9. A flat, round breakfast food served with syrup.
Pancakes. Or waffles, but I think there's only one name for those.
10. A long sandwich designed to be a whole meal in itself.
Ew. SubWay.
11. The piece of clothing worn by men at the beach.
Trunks.
12. Shoes worn for sports.
Tennis shoes (which I actually pronounce as one word, "tenni-shoes." My mother actually referred to them as tennies when I was a kid) or sneakers.
13. Putting a room in order.
Cleaning, organizing.
14. A flying insect that glows in the dark.
Lightning bug or firefly, more often than not the former. Funny, I never noticed that there were two different words for it until just now. Weird.
15. The little insect that curls up into a ball.
Roly-poly.
16. The children's playground equipment where one kid sits on one side and goes up while the other sits on the other side and goes down.
Seesaw or teeter-totter.
17. How do you eat your pizza?
By hand, generally, unless I'm with someone anal who uses a knife and fork, and I might follow suit. Maybe.
18. What's it called when private citizens put up signs and sell their used stuff?
Yard sale or garage sale, interchangeably. Flea market if they actually open up a shop.
19. What's the evening meal?
Dinner.
20. The thing under a house where the furnace and perhaps a rec room are?
Basement.
21. What do you call the thing that you can get water out of to drink in public places?
Drinking fountain. Ew. I'd have to be pretty desperate to use one.

1. My username is ______ because ______.
rena_librarian. Well, RenaissanceGrrl was taken (and continues to be taken) by some dominatrix who has a friends-only journal. Grr. I'd had to resort to renaissancegrrl_thelibrarian as my Yahoo! ID and LJ wouldn't take that many letters. I often answer to Rena on forums (Ren and RG and RGrrl aren't my cup of tea) so it just...made sense?

2. My name is _____ because ______.
Sarah, because my parents wanted to give me a Bible name. (After choosing names like Jennifer and Alicia) Suits me well enough, I suppose.

3. My journal is titled ____ because ____.
Until the Stars Are All Alight. It's a Tolkien quote (from the song Pippin sings in the movie) and I liked the reference to the stars. Also it generically refers to things getting better in the future. I suppose I might actually be due for a rename, lol. Things are good, other than the joblessness.

4. My journal subtitle is ____ because ____.
Call me 'cause I'm still awake. Slight paraphrase from Anna Nalick's "Breathe (2 AM)" because it's generally true--I'm very much a night owl.

5. My friends page is called ____ because ____.
Crazy People Who Like Me...which, uh...makes sense? Lol.

6. My default userpic is ____ because ____.
The Éowyn one Hobbity made for me...because I designed it and had it made for me.

LAST PERSON WHO...
Slept in your bed: Just moi.
Saw you cry: Huh. I can't even think of the last time I--oh snap. Kristy. Sorta. Over Sam.
Made you cry: Sam. But only a little.
Spent the night at your house: Nico.
You went to the movies with: Kristy, Jared, EJ...uh...Raymond was there, I THINK Dena was there, EJ's man whose name escapes me (but I know it starts with a J!), and a friend of theirs.
You went to the mall with: Kristy and Abi!
Yelled at you: Hmm...Nico, probably?
Sent you an e-mail: Uh...Maryanne sent me the Lions newsletter and if I got anything after that it was automated.
You kissed: No one. *sob*

HAVE YOU EVER...
Said "I love you" and meant it?: Not to a guy. Never said it. Wanted to. Would have meant it if I had.
Gotten in a fight w/your dog/cat/bird/fish,etc.: Uh, no.
Been to New York? I saw the Statue of Liberty from a grounded plane, and I think we drove through it once when I was a kid, but not in any kind of meaningful way.
Been to Florida? Lived there for six months. I turned three there.
California? Twice, I think. I was really little. WINCHESTER MANSION FTW!
Hawaii? No, and have no desire to go unless it has something to do with Lost.
Mexico? Yes, actually. DON'T DRINK THE WATER. IT'S ALL TRUE.
China? Nope.
Canada? Three times, if you count Niagara Falls when I was young enough to be in a stroller. Twice otherwise.
Danced naked? Mmm, not really. I get enough of a kick walking around in the process of changing clothes or getting ready for a shower.
Dreamed something really crazy and then it happened the next day: I've had lots of deja vus from dreams, but they take longer than the next day.
Wish you were the opposite sex? Mmm, only to escape my period. Girls kick ass.
Had an imaginary friend? More than one. And at ages I don't care to admit.

STUFF...
Have you ever loved someone you had no chance with: ...every time. And currently. -_-*
Have You Ever Cried Over Something Someone of The Opposite Sex Did: More than once...
Do You Have A "Type" Of Person You Always Go After: I think I do, but then I end up falling for someone completely NOT that type...
Want Someone You Don't Have Right Now: Yeah.
Ever Liked a close Guy/Girl Friend: Yeah...currently? I don't know that we're really friends but we spend a lot of time around each other because we have mutual friends that we're close to.
Are You Lonely Right Now: After those questions? Yeah.
Ever Afraid You'll Never Get Married: It's crossed my mind more than once.
Do You Want To Get Married: Oh, yes.
Do You Want Kids: Not in the slightest.

It's kind of difficult to admit this as a geek, and a lover of fantasy, but I've never seen Star Wars.

ANY of them.

The original one was on TV once upon a time, and my parents were watching it, and I walked in when it was about halfway through--"Thanks for TELLING me, geez!"--and I saw bits and pieces but all I really remember is the trash compacter and the zoomy flying fight and a couple of characters (which I probably wouldn't remember were they not so oft-referenced). I don't know how long ago it's been, but I was still living at home, so quite a while.

Enough is enough. I popped onto Demonoid (which has RETURNED OMG YAY), found the torrent, and as soon as I get home I'm getting those rolling. I figure it'll take about a week, maybe less. Hopefully by next weekend I'll be able to have a Star Wars marathon and finally get all those references:

humorous pictures
see more crazy cat pics

Remind me to take the geek test again after I watch them. ^_^ And reread [livejournal.com profile] iharthdarth.

ETA: I'm watching them in episode order (the newer movies first), just because so few geeks have. I promise I'll finish the set no matter how craptacular the new ones may or may not be.

That was how she had fought.
Richard normally found displays of real violence unnerving. But he found watching this woman in action exhilarating, as if she were finding a part of him he had not known existed.

~~~Neil Gaiman, Neverwhere
For a little context: Richard is watching bodyguard auditions. ^_^
It was in my bag--I'm rereading it now. It was the first book of his I read, and now that I've had a wider experience of his books, I think after I finish it this time around I'm going to be drawing fanart. Maybe. (Door fascinates me...)
