What you do is draw a picture for each of 100 prompts. They give you the HTML to set up a table with each prompt as a link to the pics. No time limit or anything. All the pics have to be for the same fandom (in my case, D2D).
The prompts are single words--yellow, beginnings, rain, etc. So say I see the prompt "rain," draw a pic of the OC's at Helm's Deep, I can post that. Then somehow (not sure yet how it works exactly) I can post my table and if you click on "rain" it'll link to the pic.
Basically it's a challenge/excuse to draw 100 pics. ^_^ I asked if I could claim a fanfic and when I hear back I'll be better-informed as to whether or not I want to do it. (Also, I think I'll probably have about ten of 'em filled in to begin with as I have a fairly voluminous backlog of D2D art already...)
ETA: This is the table of prompts.
In Another World (LotR fiction)
Mar. 15th, 2006 11:42 amThe foremost of these (and, in fact, the only one I've actually started working on again) is In Another World.
This is something that I think predates D2D (as far as when work began on it, anyway), and I know (from my author notes) predates Lalaith (which is up at FFN, if not yet FOS). It is an LotR fic, and the plot is in some ways similar to D2D, but it is NOT a clone story. The style is totally different. In Another World is something that D2D could have been, I think, but something I would never have wanted D2D to be.
It's darker, to put it simply, and while D2D has its dark and angsty moments, there's always comic relief just around the corner. I want to say that In Another World is more realistic. Shelly has commented on the difference between Shelly/Legolas and Sarah/Frodo--the latter don't ever fight, the only moments that aren't sunshine and roses for them is when they're dealing with being separated, and while I like to think that it happens, the truth is that it's a rarity.
In Another World is the story of Shyda, a modern girl who meets Frodo (like my character in D2D), and has a very different relationship with him than the character based on me does. They have issues, things aren't sunshine and roses for them.
Why all this rant? I think I'm afraid that people who have read D2D will read In Another World and be disappointed, or that people who discover me via In Another World will then read D2D and be disappointed. It could be "OMG, In Another World was so amazing and real and then D2D was this stupid bit of fluff!" or "D2D was so great and then I read In Another World and it was all depressing! WTF?"
What I really hope is that my readers are intelligent enough to appreciate both styles the way I do, and that I'll get positive feedback. I worry that Hobbity and Shelly will be the only ones to appreciate In Another World as the masterwork that I view it as.
That being said, what I really wanted to do was post a bit of a teaser for In Another World. I want to see if I can draw some D2D fans out of the woodwork, maybe whet some appetites...it's going to be a while before anything goes up officially at FOS, but I can tell you that once my three big projects (the veteran's tea, my veteran interview, and the second Honors Sociology paper) for school are done, I'm really going to throw myself into this (at least between D2D chapters, lol). I've already written 22.5 out of 47 planned scenes (and I mean really written, they're postable as-is), so if I really apply myself, I could conceivably have it done long before the end of this summer.
So, anyway...I'd really like to hear from any and all LotR fans on this one--whether you're following D2D or not--even if you're new to fanfiction. If you are following D2D and this journal but have never commented here, this is your chance. (Really. I welcome my fan-lurkers--I know there's at least two of you! ^_^)

More D2D portraits
Feb. 27th, 2006 03:10 pm

Obviously Sarah and Shelly. ^_- Nothing I could do to about Sarah's feet (they didn't have a hobbit feet option!) or make her as short as she should be, lol...it's more of a closeup. XD
D2D portraits
Feb. 23rd, 2006 04:13 pmThese were all made at elouai.com, with the Girl Candybar Dollmaker 2 and Boy Candybar Dollmaker 2.

That's Sarah, Shelly, Mike, and Cody from D2D. (Of course there are height differences and such that aren't taken into account...but still.) Yes, Cody's hair really is like that. And that's supposed to be the now-infamous waiter outfit. XD As for Mike--his hair's a little lighter than I would have liked, but the cut is right.
I tried to make Cody and Mike in SID (in other words, in old-fashioned clothes), but they simply did NOT have the right clothes. It was a stretch, but I DID manage to make Sarah and Shelly. However, the links aren't working right now, I'll have to re-upload them when I come back on Monday. *sigh* Oh, I won't be online tomorrow like usual--I'm going off to camp! YAY! WOOT!
my crappy life
Feb. 16th, 2006 11:13 amCan things get any worse?
I've barely been able to get online all this week, one of the CD's I burned at Nico's is irreparably scratched (that's not a huge deal, I guess, as I somehow missed burning one of the songs I most wanted to burn and I can fix that next time I go over there) my car is A) broken down and B) going to cost around $250, I'm driving the van today and that handles completely different than Laurien (new personal resolution: I vow to never own a vehicle that I can't see over the top of), I have a headache (sorta), I still need to finish Shelly's chapter, and to top all that off (the straw that broke the camel's back, I suppose) I get here and Excite won't let me into my email.
Blessing in disguise: Acting class was cancelled. Another hour-fifteen for me to be online. YAY!
This has been the crappiest week I've had since...well, since I lost my job at SubWay. And that, too, was a blessing in disguise, because even though it sucks sometimes, I like my Taco Bell job WAY better.
Up, up, up, it can only go up from here... --Shania Twain
I feel like I'm whining about trivial stuff when compared to, like...world hunger. But I don't care at the moment. I'm cranky.
I'm going to go work on my chapter now.
*sob*
I'm tired and cranky and my bag of purple-wrapped Hershey's kisses is back at home.
Woe is me.
Though, honestly, this has absolutely nothing to do with being depressed about being single (AGAIN) on S.A.D. I just need a nice nap and all would be well.
Shelly--I would have had your chapter for you, but me being the genius that I am, left the disk I had yours on at school! Luckily it was still in the computer this morning, so you'll get it tomorrow.
new internet toy! (ooh, shineh!)
Feb. 1st, 2006 05:32 pmI made this:
That's the link to Candybar Maker 2. If you click on "List of Makers" near the top, there are other models to make guy dolls, houses/rooms, other stuffs.
I am soooo coming back and making the four D2D principles, both before and after ME. Just, not right now, as I need to skedaddle home, lol.
rambling...
Jan. 23rd, 2006 05:06 pmAn actual update. Ish. Lol.
First off, a shout-out to Nico, who has been introduced to the odd bit of reading material that is my life. Though he has yet to COMMENT, cough cough. (It's the little thing at the bottom of the entry that says "speak," mmkay? You can comment without signing up.)
Anyway. FOS is down so I can't update D2D. Hopefully that resolves itself before 5:30 or it won't go up until tomorrow.
School sucks, I wish I'd never signed up to be an Honors student. You know you're bored out of your brain when, instead of taking notes on the speaker, you take notes on how the lecture hall could be redecorated. O_O
I just feel like the entire point of the Honors class this semester goes against what I believe--it's a "leadership" course, and I believe that leaders are born, not made. Every assignment thus far has been me banging my head against cinderblocks. I'm kind of hoping they ask me to drop because of my "negative attitude" or something.
Or that I could get up the guts to just plain drop it, out of the blue. *sigh*
On a brighter note, though, I have a HUGE effing announcement. (If you've known me for any decent length of time, three years or more, you'll know just how big this is.)
I'm thinking of cutting my hair.
And I'm not talking, like, a trim. I mean, like, shortish. Still long enough to touch my shoulders, but just barely.
Actually, I can show you what I want to do with it... (click to enlarge)
Yes. That is Meg Ryan. I assure you, this has nothing to do with wanting to be like Meg Ryan, or her character in this movie, or anything stalkerish like that. (Come on, if I was going to be stalkerish in such a way it'd be over an LotR character, lol.) It's just that every time I watch Kate and Leopold (which, all haircuts aside, is a fantabulous movie, quite possibly my all-time favorite romantic comedy) I think to myself how much I like that haircut.
So basically what I want to know is: would that haircut look spectacular or hideous or what on me? For those of you who only know me online and need a refresher, here's the latest pic I have of me, again, click to enlarge:
And that's my big, looming decision of the week. Should I or shouldn't I? Comments appreciated, even if they're "OMG NO! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???"

Stories I have written in 2005: Okay, okay...this was a really unproductive year for me, other than D2D/SID, for which I can only claim half credit. BUT, since I'm in the process of moving to FOS, and the rereading/reposting process makes you reconsider your work closely, I'm going to fill this out keeping ALL my fanfiction in mind.

My favorite of my own stories this year: I've long thought that "Constant Changes" was my masterpiece, but I think D2D and its followups are my favorite, really.
My best story this year: To avoid stealing Shelly's credit, "What Counts."
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: All of them! Lol, j/k...but it IS hard to pick just one. I think that despite the lovely reviews it got, no one can understand the work that went into "Everything You Know Is Wrong," but as far as being under-reviewed... I was expecting a lot more feedback on "What Counts," since for once my fiction was within the "latest big thing" category, lol.
Most fun story: "Everything You Know Is Wrong" or "Everybody's Free (To Wear Mithril)."
Most sexy story: D2D probably pushes the line most often, lots of kissing. And smiley face boxers. And more swimming scenes than I would have thought possible.
Story with single sexiest moment: "I Love You More Now" has a reference to Takeru "wanting to prove his love right then," but I think "Constant Changes" probably takes the cake here--Ken and Miyako are on their honeymoon bed about to do the deed when our archvillain materializes. (Though there are similar moments coming in D2D. Nothing over PG-13, though.)
Hardest story to write: "The Girl in the Denim Jacket," because I was fairly new to the series (I had not seen much Digimon and a lot of my info was from reading about it rather than seeing it myself), to writing (prior to that I had not written anything of substantial length), and to fanfiction (it was my first true fanfic).
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you" fic: "Everything You Know Is Wrong." Come on. A quintuple songfic to songs I'd never heard, about a pairing I don't really like. XD Written by request, in case you're shaking your head--songs and plot provided, but it was still a doozy to wrap my head around.
Fic that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: "The Dance" made me not hate Mimi. "Deception" made me realize that Hikari was not all sweetness and light. "Happy Valentine's Day part II" made me see past Jun's Nazgurlish behavior to the cool person underneath.
Favorite major canon character of 2005: Frodo. Like, duh.
Favorite minor canon character of 2005: Admittedly, I did not expect for Haldir to take on such a personality. (Granted, it's a haughty, I'm-an-Elf-and-I-tolerate-you-because-I-was-ordered-to personality, but he's so darn lovable by the time we get done...)
Favorite original character of 2005: A character that has yet to appear in the D2D saga. Here's a hint: the name starts with a T, and it's not "the."
Biggest disappointment: SID getting pulled from FFN! >_< XD Seriously, though--I thought "Everybody's Free (To Wear Mithril)" would catch on more--I thought more people were familiar with the source material. Mayhap I need to post it at a parody site rather than a fanfiction archive.
Biggest surprise: "Everything You Know Is Wrong" is still getting the occasional review! I've gotten at least two since FFN (finally!!) put in the review-response feature. (Mayhap people are struggling to get past the bad Sonic X fiction that's gotta be absolutely flooding FFN now?)
Most telling story: "Different Tastes" speaks volumes as to how I get along with Dad--we just plain do not understand each other, and sometimes we have a day like this story, but unfortunately we generally end up back where we started. "Easy Enough for You to Say" is pretty much my current rant, too.
What's next? What I will write FOR SURE (not counting stuff that's just notes or stray thoughts): Loads more about Shelly and Sarah (here's a hint: SID only goes to 50 chapters, but there are currently 138 chapters total for the saga...you do the math), an Elijah songfic to Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved," a Charlie/Claire songfic, and a Charlie vignette.
BWAHAHAHAHA!
They assigned us an official email address to be used for school, which is a pain in the rear to use, ugly to look at, and damn hard to log in to. (We have to type in the whole "@student.asumh.edu" part, too, after our "user ID"--which is an ASSIGNED 6-DIGIT NUMBER.)
I logged in and set it to forward ALL messages to my REAL email address. ^_^ I'll never have to check it. Yay me!
That being said, today was the second day of school. Got to Theatre Practicum and discovered that both Robert and his brother, Justin, are taking the class. (Robert as Acting II, Justin as Theatre Practicum.)
Casie from Acting I is in there, as are Megan from II, Karen from I AND II, Hannah from Fine Arts (who I kinda know but not really), and Dustin from Bio (who I know by name but not much else). New to me are Cecil, Deidre, and Amber (well, Amber was in BCM--that's not a class, but I kinda know her a little). Also, Luke Honey from Fine Arts (don't know him except to know his name when I see him) registered in there, but he didn't show today. (Supposedly he's in Germany.)
This class will be a next-to-no-effort A. (We have to keep a journal and I'll have to show up and work on the production, but that's not WORK, IMHO.)
Then Physical Science...gah. It doesn't seem like it'll be as hard as I was thinking (thank goodness) and there's an easy extra-credit assignment (3-page, 3-reference bio of a scientist) for 25 points (800 points possible for the semester), so I should be able to scrape together a decent grade. Luckily (unlike with Bio) there are no major papers. Pretty much show-up-and-do-the-homework-and-you'll-survive.
So all I really have to stress about is the Honors forum and Sociology. And boy, am I stressing.
On the good news front, D2D in its entirety is now on FOSFF (thank you, Shelly!). Click here... If time permits, I'll post as much SID as I can later. (Hopefully that'll be ALL of it.)
Merry and Pippin Christmas!
Dec. 21st, 2005 02:41 pmWe might be in Malvern, actually--my grandma (to quote the Princess Diaries movie, "the live one"--my Grandma Crawford) had a triple bypass last week and Mom's down there indefinitely to help take care of her. BUT, if Grandma's out of the hospital by Christmas, then Mom may come back here for Christmas and go down again, or we may have Christmas down there, or (my hope) we'll go get her and go on up to St. Louis as originally planned. (Grandma's got two of her other kids living right there in town with her, my Aunt Laura and my Uncle Kurt, so it's not like there'd be no one to care for her. And Grandpa, too.)
She's doing okay, she wants to be up and running around doing stuff and the nurses won't let her out of bed.
I'm getting CONTACTS in January! WOOT! This is an incredibly good thing, seeing as I had to wire my glasses together this morning because the screw fell out. I'm going to go to Wal-Mart as soon as I'm done here to see if I can get them to put in a new one, and if not--oh well, I only have a monthish to deal with wired glasses. ^_^ Teehee.
I'm sorely tempted to get colored contacts. Dad said I could if I paid for the difference. ^_^ (OMGPURPLEEYESWHEEEE!)
Shelly FINALLY sent me her chapter. WOOT! So I can work on that over the break.
I think I'm going to work on posting some of D2D over at FOSFF now, and let you all go for now. (That and I want to upload some userpics, now that I know how that works...)
Merry and Pippin Christmas to you all! ^_^
Freedom of Speech
Dec. 13th, 2005 03:53 pmI don't know why Shelly hasn't got D2D and SID up at fosff.net yet.
However, I've opened up a RenaissanceGrrl account there for myself and have moved all my FictionPress.com stuff over there. http://www.fosff.net/viewuser.php?uid=3414 The link is also in the links list at left. (Visit these places: Me @ Freedom of Speech Fan Fiction.) I am in the process of moving over what I can from FFN (there's no Early Edition category at FOS yet, lol).
Anyway. Farewell, Fan Fiction Nazis!
ALL PICS IN THIS POST ARE CLICK-TO-GO-TO-FULLSIZE VERSION. Ahem.
MY HAIR! Before!
After!
Leetle bit of a deeference, no? ^_^
MY KITTIES!
Elladan and Elrohir. And yes, that IS my front door. And no, I really don't know why it's dark magenta. I didn't pick it.
LIFE CHAIN
Life Chain is an anti-abortion protest. All we do (yes, I participate) is stand along the main street in town for an hour, holding signs that say things like "Abortion Kills Children" and "Adoption: The Loving Option." I just wanted to post this pic since that little guy in the lawnchair is Grandpa. ^_^
MY PARENTS Mom.
Dad.
It's not rocket science. XD
Yes, Dad has a gun. He was killing some of the squirrels that live in the trees on our porch and throw nutshells down on it. Or at us. Not that I approve of that, but I happened to be outside with the camera at the moment.
LOOK WHAT WAS IN OUR YARD!!!
I know that the pic is crappy, but that is a REAL LIVE POSSUM that was in our yard!!! OMG, somebody call Red Green! (Not that anyone else watches that show...)
LAURIEN Note the green mirror on the driver's side. Sigh.
This happened about 30 minutes after I spent $2 to wash her. I'm never doing that again. She's getting hose baths from now on. Period.
BUMPER STICKER! I'm pimping my website! MWAHAHA! (DLBE's take note: You, too, can get one of these, here!)
SCHOOL
I went out on Keller Green, which is the center of the campus, and took these. I'm going to put them in spatial order, meaning that they're in this order, clockwise, IRL. McClain Hall
First National Hall
Dryer Hall
Roller Hall
I have Bio in McClain, the Honors Forum meets in the belltower of First National (you're looking at the windows in that pic), the rest of my classes are in Dryer, and the library and Student Center *coughcarpetedcafeteriacough* are in Roller. And speaking of the library... HOW WICKED IS THAT??? Okay, okay, so it's really...
But STILL!
There's some really pretty stuff in here. The library's down on the third floor, but the second floor has this lobby (Gaston Lobby...if any of you are wondering what the names are, they're all the names of the $$$ donors, and if you lived here you'd sniggle--First National is a bank, Gaston's is a restaurant, that kind of thing) with a pretty floor. And then if you look up...
You can see the THIRD floor!
I went up to the third floor and took this down through that hole. ^_^
ALMOST BUT KINDA SORTA NOT RANDOM PICS OF ME! I'm not fond of this pic at all (thanks DAAAAD), but there's my shirt, Hobbity. (And GamgeeFest. Lol.)
There's my BROOCH! Karen from Acting class gave me that sweater around the time of the play (it was a costume option).
Other than that I'm sitting on the stairs, there's no real point to this one, I just like it. ^_^
Okay, so it's just my hand--but that's my Sting necklace. ^_^
Since I don't have Photoshop OR a life...
MY ROOM!
I know, I know, you're all gagging to see these...gagging? I must have watched Josie and the Pussycats more recently than I thought! My bed. Yes, it's built into the bookshelves. ^_^
Zooming in on the most important shelf...
Just to the left of that...my chair! And my not-quite-LotR-but-yet-LotR-RELATED posters. I DID NOT BUY THE ORLI ONE FOR MYSELF. LOST! SQUEE!
Continuing left, my entertainment center. Which has been rearranged since I took that pic, the DVD's are now on the top two shelves of the rack...the Lost Season One set is on the floor, spread open...
And to the RIGHT of the bed...my LOTR WALL!
Just to tease Hobbity, here's a closeup from the above pic. It's showing chapter 137 of D2D. XD See anything interesting?
And this, of course, is the focal point of the LotR wall. Quite helpful, when I'm having writer's block on D2D. *mad sniggling*
Okay. Pic spam over! Comment with questions and I shall answer!
Monalilly again
Sep. 20th, 2005 04:11 pmSID 31's up. ^_^
Yet again, this probably shouldn't make me happy, but it DOES... Monalilly? See. I'm so right.
I scanned a few of my pen-and-ink doodles to post on DLBE and thought I'd share here, as well. Dude. There was a time when I NEVER doodled in pen, and now I practice a lot in pen before pencilling the final pic. (I finally get it, Kat! Lol...)
They're all click-to-enlarge...
This is Elijah Wood, and a girl, for a story in the works. I haven't figured out her name yet. That's why the story has only gotten about four paragraphs long so far. XD At any rate, in this story, he was never famous...personally I think it's a very obvious plotline, and it's really just going to be fluff. But I shall enjoy myself writing it. (Oh, and the notation in the bottom right corner says "Bad feet." Because they are. I tend not to bother getting hands and feet perfect in my pen sketches since what I'm usually trying to perfect is the "look" of a character, or a particular expression, or outfit...)
This is Lijah from the same story. Basically I drew this in response to the reaction at DLBE--everyone was commenting on how they liked his glasses, so I wanted to have a front view of them. The shirt is a tip of the hat to the infamous Toronto photo shoot. (And this is how I shall know the difference between the Lijah-fans and non-Lijah-fans among my commenters, lol--all the Lijah fans know EXACTLY which photo shoot I mean without even seeing the pic.) I'm REALLY proud of his hair here. I'm not that good with short hair. Why do you think I prefer drawing Hobbits? And Legolas? And Boromir, and Aragorn, and Faramir, and the LotR girls...
This is Charlie and Claire, from Lost. (Yes, drawn on Lost Season One Box Set DVD Day...can you imagine trying to fit that into a calendar square if that really was an official holday? XD) Why did I draw her still pregnant? I don't know. Probably because I didn't feel like drawing Aaron, and I feel like I have to include him if I draw her unpregnant, which probably stems from the "I'm so sorry..." pic I drew. (That was a pic of Charlie comforting her, not pregnant anymore, that I drew after they ended the ep where she came back, but you couldn't tell if she was still pregnant or not and I convinced myself that she'd lost the baby. I have that on my computer, I should post that again...) At any rate, they're looking awfully SD there. It wasn't intentional, but I think it's kind of cute. Fits the mood. (It was probably because I was in a classroom and wasn't thrilled with the idea of trying to explain what I was drawing and therefore tried not to make so big that it wouldn't fit under my hand...)
This is my D2D/SID character, Hobbitized...or I guess I should just say my SID character, lol. This dress has NOT appeared in-story yet...it's concept art for one that will, though. I haven't quite decided how I want the in-story one to look yet but this is awfully close--the finished one will probably be a bit fancier. (And...wow...it looks very much like the sort of dress worn by...oh, darnit, she hasn't been introduced yet. *cackles mysteriously*)
So anyway. There's your look into my notebook today. (Okay, okay...there's a few others, but I'm not as happy with them, lol.)
(Kat: Would any of this cut it at Blue Grade, or would you rather have true finished pics?)
