Bear with me, been a while since I've memed. =) And I can already see that this is going to be heavily Adult-Swim biased, because that's more or less the only (fictional) thing Cody and I can agree on. (We also watch a lot of MythBusters and other non-fictional sorts of TV, and rarely ever watch movies.) Oh, and I'm including books. So nyeah. =P
Fandom Meme 2009
Ten Favourite Characters of the Year:
1. Sawyer (or should I say LeFleur?), Lost
2. Billy/Dr. Horrible, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
3. Gregory House, House
4. Toki Wartooth, Metalocalypse
5. Brian and Stewie Griffin, Family Guy (I realize that that's technically two, but it's the banter between them that I really love, moreso than either one on their own.)
6. Coraline, Coraline
7. 9, 9
8. Aximili, Animorphs
9. Tobias, Animorphs
10. Temple Barr, Midnight Louie Mysteries
Five Favourite Pairings of the Year (Canon or crack, romantic or not, doesn't matter):
1. Billy/Penny, Dr. Horrible
2. Toki/Skwisgaar, Metalocalypse
3. Bobby/Connie, King of the Hill
4. Brian/Stewie, Family Guy (the idea of a dog and a baby is sick, I know, but it's practically canon, at least on Stewie's side. "Olive juice you too, Brian..." And sadly it's not the most disturbing potential relationship on that show. *coughchrisherbertcough*)
5. Tobias/Rachel, Animorphs
Three Favourite TV shows of the Year:
1. Lost (always)
2. Metalocalypse
3. Family Guy
Your favourite book read this year:
Honestly, I'm just glad to have reading time built into my day again--I get two fifteen-minute breaks at work and I read. But I think the one that was most pleasing, definitely the most fun, was Meg Cabot's The Boy Next Door. It's written entirely in emails between the characters.
Your favourite album or song to listen to this year:
I'm going to go ahead and say The Best Damn Thing by Avril Lavigne, but really, this was the year I discovered the joy in hunting down live recordings and rare demos and b-sides by your favorite artist. =)
Your favourite LJ community of the year:
This was actually kind of the year that I strayed from LJ and moved to Google Reader. I can't say I was overly enthused with any LJ community.
Lost, of course.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year:
I think Dr. Horrible is the one that fills me with the most joy. =)
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year:
It's not something I watch on a regular basis, but I like the King of Queens. I was always pleased by the fact that the main couple doesn't have any children and it's not like they ever talked about trying or wanting to try to have kids, or anything. They were just happy together...and then I decided to read the Wikipedia article, and damned if the series finale didn't show their future, in which they have two kids. >_< Way to have the finale ruin the series. (Unlike, say, Sex and the City.)
Your biggest squee moment of the year:
I think I was most excited to find out Avril was due to release an album. (The fact that it's finished but still not out is disappointing, to say the least.)
Favourite main character of the year:
Most of my favorite shows are all ensemble-y...I guess I'd have to say Billy/Dr. Horrible.
Favourite villain of the year:
Dr. Horrible, hands down! =D
Favourite video game character of the year:
Sonic, as always. I'm not a huge gamer. =P
Favourite game of the year:
Brain Age, for the few weeks we had it. (We borrowed Emily's DS so Cody could set up her R4 with about 20 games.)
Favourite het couple of the year:
I reiterate, Billy/Penny from Dr. Horrible.
Favourite femslash couple of the year:
I honestly can't think of any girl/girl pairings I'm overly fond of. The only lesbian couple I even remember is Vix/Caitlin from Summer Sisters, and I'm not sure you can count that because they never truly hooked up. (Or, of course, if you count pre-Foreman Thirteen from House, and then I don't think we're in this year anymore...and that's a character, not a couple. =P)
Favourite slash couple of the year:
Toki/Skwisgaar, easily. The awesome thing about Metalocalypse is Cody and I were watching it one night and I was like "I bet there's Toki and Skwisgaar slash." And I Googled it, and sure enough I was right. And he was like "Yeeeeeeah, I can see it..." And then we ranked the five band members from most butch to most bitch...and both came up with the same order. XD (Murderface, Nathan, Pickles, Skwisgaar, and Toki, for anyone who's curious.)
Fandom that you never expected to get into:
Metalocalypse. The first few times I watched it I was left shaking my head and saying "WTF?" But then I read the Wikipedia article, and got that the basic concept, and then in context it all began to make sense...and then, there's Toki. I want to adopt him. =)
Fandom that made an unexpected comeback:
Bookmooch facilitated my desire to finish out my Animorphs series. I've got less than ten to go, but unfortunately have hit a brick wall. The further along you go in the series, the harder they are to find. =( But hey, I'm a heckuva lot closer than I was.
Fandom that inspired the most crack:
The only fandom I've done any writing for (save D2D, which is somewhat separate) is, actually...Labyrinth. And I blame Cody for getting me into David Bowie's music. And yeah, it's kinda cracked out.
Last fandom of the year:
Hm. I think the last thing I watched in 2009 was actually Robot Chicken. Not sure.
Overall favourite fandoms of the year:
Dr. Horrible made me squee the most, Lost was crazy awesome... Yeah. We'll stick with that.
Your main fandom of the year:
Family Guy, by sheer volume of availability. (Between TBS and Adult Swim and Fox...)
The most missed of your old fandoms:
I would really like to get back into the Sonic the Hedgehog comics, but I haven't bought/read a new once since I moved out, so...roughly 36 issues, at $2.50 a pop (maybe more? I don't even know)...
Predictions for next year:
Obsessive following of Lost's final season, since I can't torrent anymore. Hopefully I'll track down more Animorphs (even if I have to pay for a few of them). And I think I
