Okay, so I've been posting quizzes and commenting so clearly I'm not dead, but in case you're atwitter with wondering what went wrong Tuesday before last, I got laid off.
I was called into the office and told to get my purse off my desk and go on home, in the middle of the afternoon.
I didn't do anything wrong; fourteen people (according to Kristy; I can confirm three besides myself) were let go throughout the day. The company is suffering because schools are suffering, and everyone that left was low man on the totem pole in their department.
I'm not as upset about it as I could have been. Actually, with the PTO I got and getting paid early for the last two days of work, I'm ahead financially for the moment, so I'm not freaking out, though obviously it won't last long if I don't find something. And I have been looking--I actually have a RESUMÉ now. It's SHINY.
So...drawing unemployment, and jobhunting. I'm absolutely not going back into foodservice in any way, shape, or form, but if any of you hear about any kind of desk work I might be qualified for, please pass it along. (Call me crazy, but I like working in the cubicle environment.) I'm even willing to relocate, if it's to someplace I'm willing to go (St. Louis; Chicago; Edmonton; NYC maybe. Or overseas) and I don't have to fund the moving. And obviously if I can afford a place there, lol.
In the meantime (unemployment only requires that I contact two prospective employers a week, and even though I'm doing more than that jobhunting does NOT take up my entire day) I've been cleaning/organizing around the house. I got another box from the Room of Doom unpacked (holy bad memories of my final semester x_x but I found my diploma!) and finally got the yard sale stuff out of my...ditchen? Kining room? (Lol.)
I recycle now, at least paper and cans. I was just going to let the paper be a one-time thing since I was throwing out a box of old newspapers, but seeing how much paper I actually throw out, and seeing how easy it is to get it over to the center, I feel guilty NOT recycling it. So yay green.
Looking at the word resumé makes me want to go drink a ramuné. (Kristy informed me today that it comes in melon. WANT.) I think I shall.
