I know our city has at least one major plow, and at least three privately-owned ones (I went for a walk last night and saw them), but...yeah. Dealing with snow is NOT a major part of our city's...budget? Repertoire? IDK.
When I was younger snow hardly ever lasted more than a day or two--if it did, we had one epic storm and then it would melt off and that would be the only snow we'd really get. In 1994 we had an epic ice storm and the entire state was declared to be in a state of national emergency, took like two weeks to melt. Again in 2009 we had a huge ice storm and most of my area was without power for anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks. We're in part of some weather cycle that is dumping us with seriously crappy winters and I think it's about time they looked into things like salting the roads/buying another plow. I know we don't need snow clearance on the level of, say, Chicago, but the Road Department seriously needs to put on their big boy undies and realize that their whole "oh we'll kinda plow after it falls" isn't cutting it anymore. GRAH.
